If yes, why do you think you're a nerd? What nerdy things do you do?

Do you suffer discrimination for being a nerd?

If you're not a nerd, what do you think of nerds? What are you doing in this thread, anyway?:D

I am a bit of a nerd in some ways and have always been. I loved to study more than party. I still read a lot, but I also love nerdy things like comic books and anime (or animation in general really) as well.

I was such a nerd that one of my old sparring partners threatened to kick me out of his party because I brought a book to read (he reminded me of this on a recent hike we went on with his son), and my wife would get angry at me at social gatherings because I normally brought something to read just in case the conversation was not interesting enough.
    But that isn't really discrimination.

At school I never suffered from discrimination as my father was a boxer for the Russian part of the Soviet Union and was good enough to train me from a young age. So although I did not participate in extra school organized sports, and stayed in the library during lunch I was rarely picked on. When I was though, my confidence was high enough to either brush it off or deal with it quickly (hopefully quietly, but didn't always work out this way:oops:).

Myself no I'm completely useless with computers, smart phones, technology in general. My wife is a complete nerd though. My wife loves all the technological toys.

Growing up, I had nerdy tendencies. But there was also a wild child side of me that stood up for the nerds that couldn't defend themselves. I kinda embraced the best of both worlds, which made me the guy your mother warned you about. Lol.:D

I'm sure some would think so lol. I've always been into video games, comics, action figures (the non-Barbie ones, even though I did like those too lmao), and reading. Especially when it comes to fantasy, sci-fi, and history genres. I loved my classes in school whenever I was lucky enough to have a good teacher and looked forward to attending them, but that was unfortunately very rare. I like following the news about various science topics, and I love reading about reveals of all the new tech. stuff that's always coming out.

Just keep math far, far away from me

    No, I'm not a nerd.

I don't think anything in general about nerds since each person is unique. I've met cool nerds, idiotic nerds and everything in between :D

I'm just nosing around here and providing my very important opinion on the subject because I want to share the beauty of my wisdom with the world.

He's the kind of nerd I had in mind. Only very recently I've got to know people who liked stuff like comics, anime and video games were also called nerds. I used to think nerds were people into real science, the non-fiction type.

That's the kind of nerdy tendencies I was talking about. I uses to do physics problems for fun. Walked around with a crossword in my back pocket and love logic puzzle books. Yet the life of the party and always the last one standing. A true enigma.

I think I was a nerd in the classical sense when I was younger, never really got a chance to get back into it as life and wanting girls to like me got in the way.

I’ve always been an academic nerd mostly with math. In my youth I was more into nerdy things like gaming, but not so much anymore.

I think I perceived more discrimination than there really was, so I tried to offset that by doing things like partying too much and smoking cigarettes. In adulthood I suppose I still feel a latent need to combat the geek perception, and that is manifested in…joining a sex forum.

    Let's see... Am I a nerd...?

[x] loves comic books, graphic novels, manga, and cartoons
[x] loves Science Fiction and Fantasy
[x] plays tabletop games such as Dungeons & Dragons and Kingdom Death: Monster
[x] is fairly knowledgeable about technology such as computers, smartphones, tablets, HTML, &c
[x] more of an introvert than extrovert
[x] owns at least 3 series of cartoons, comics, or Sci-Fi/Fantasy series in their entirety
[x] will argue passionately over things that are typically deemed frivolous such as pop culture, movies, music, &c
[x] would rather sit at the kids' table and talk about Batman than sit at the grown-ups' table and talk about work
    [x] socially awkward
    [x] more than slightly agoraphobic
[x] spent more than one year of adult life living with parents
[x] regularly attends conventions focused on "nerd culture" subjects
[x] plays numerous video games on a regular basis
    [x] thick-lensed, thick-framed glasses
[x] collects figurines, statuettes, and other similar paraphernalia

    Need I go on? :p

And yes, in spite of there being a surge of popularity for things such as comic book movies and such, nerds still tend to be ostracised and more socially outcast. It's okay to appreciate "nerdy" things, but not to be truly passionate about them.

A member posted a picture of mine on a thread without my authorization. Though I was flattered and I'm sure he didn't mean bad, I felt uncomfortable it'd happen again and decided to hide.

The reason I don't post pictures of my body on threads is to be able to delete them when I want. Once they're posted on a thread, and by somebody else, there's nothing I can do.

I've asked Rob to delete it.

Edit: actually, I went after the post to ask Bendy to delete it and I've seen that Rob did it! I'm so happy. THANK YOU, ROB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I'll unlock my profile.
