Most people seem to adopt the male model of orgasm, being that time when contractions and ejaculation occur. There is some contemporary thinking that, due to the vastly different ways that females experience sexual pleasure versus males, orgasm begins much earlier in the experience, at the beginning when she "tunes in" and begins a much longer period of arousal well in advance of a climax.

Do the women on the forum consider the climax to be the "goal" or "best" part of their sexual pleasure, or the intense ending of the longer, increasing arousal, phase of the experience?

Is the orgasm the climax at the end or the whole journey?

If you had asked me this question a while ago, I would have said it's the whole journey but, I'm lost my ability to orgasm these past few times I've had sex so, I'd have to say, it's the end, the climax, the big KABOOM! that I crave.

I feel a definite shift into the final buildup to orgasm. It's a point when I sometimes have a porn moment and actually say "I'm going to cum." From that point, orgasm is definitely a goal, but before that, I'm not so sure. The pleasure along the way can be, well, a pleasure in itself. I'm not always in a hurry to get to an orgasm.

Thanks for your replies so far. What I'm finding is that I believe enjoying the journey seems to be more intuitive for women, and getting to the climax more so for men. From what I've read and experienced, women have an order of magnitude greater potential for pleasure than men as a result. But it's knowing this, experimenting, and exploring the potential that make it happen, especially when many guys still use the male model of getting to the climax as a reference when pleasuring their women.

My wife has taught me the female model by her responses, and by how much she'll allow me to tease and deny her, and we've begun to explore my orgasms on those terms also. The result is that we both now experience pleasure for very long periods of time, and the climaxes at the end vary greatly in duration and intensity. I'm wondering if the gals here are experiencing pleasure for hours, and if they've tried giving their men a similar experience. The phrase "going slowly and stopping along the way to smell the roses" comes to mind.
