What the author says in their conclusion is very spot on.

    • "And that's one final thing about pornography: Almost all of us shy away from going public with any interest we might have in it. Intuitively, we recognize it's somewhat crude, unsavory, tasteless, and tawdry. It's not simply that it somehow feels illicit or dirty, but that it seems a bit "nasty" as well--whereas with a beautiful woman who also happens to project immense eroticism (note Helmut Newton's portrait of Bridget Bardot), the viewer (probably male!) might indeed be "turned on," but at some level he'd also be aware that the sensuality the photograph so stunningly captures is--well--"classic."

I post Modigliani and Egon Schiele on my Facebook but wont post lovely pics of my fave porn stars.

everyone can have a different idea what erotic can be,what can be erotic for me,not be for someone else.
if porn turns you on then there is no difference
look the definitions up, I see no difference in them

Porn is erotic but is erotic art then deemed to be porn, I think not.

Both pictures are erotic but one picture makes you want to have it hung up on your wall and the other picture gets you hard (if you like that kind of look)

a distinction is often made between erotic art and pornography (which also depicts scenes of love-making and is intended to evoke erotic arousal, but is not usually considered art). The distinction may lie in intent and message; erotic art would be items intended as pieces of art, encapturing formal elements of art, and drawing on other historical artworks. Pornography may also use these tools, but is primarily intended to arouse one sexually. Nevertheless, these elements of distinction are highly subjective.

Erotic art does not have to make you feel turned on where as that is all pornography is meant for.

But like the Wiki article states it is subjective, one needs only to think about Jeff Koons or the Black Sheep Feminist Artists.

I do admit a grey line in some instances but the majority of erotic art is not meant for arousal.

Great topic, I've often wondered the difference too. For me it's not black and white like it is in writing.

between two consenting people I never knew there was anything prohibited or dirty,
I may not like what they are doing but I'll fight that they have the right to do it.
and I like dirty sex some times :p

I enjoy erotic art, I enjoy it as really nice pics, porn tends to be more sexual content, and something I would use for arousal.
I think there is a different but there are some gray areas.

i like both myself as forms of art and the grey area is boundless ....sometimes we do erotica photos and sometimes i would classify them as pornography ....but we enjoy looking at them afterwards in a different type of agenda than most would think . with us its what we consider as "now thats sexy" and in some cases its porn and yet in other cases its just some type of erotic poses .....
so in conclusion i would venture to say we dont have much of a boundary on what is what ....LOL

Erotica to me is classy and sensual. Pornography is harsh and in your face.

Very similar to what I was going to say. To me erotic stimulates the mind & imagination where as pornography is in your face.
