    STARLINGS by Randy Stonehill

Riding with my family in a '58 Buick
    I can still recall
How we'd drive through the valley
    To my Grandmother's house
    Every summer vacation
    When I was small
And I'd gaze out the window
At the farms and the orchards
And the sound of our motor
    Would frighten the starlings
And they'd rise from the fields to fly

    My mother would grumble
    "Those birds are a curse
They're a thorn in the farmers" side
But I couldn't help feeling sad and inspired
By their desperate ballet in the sky

    Chorus
Say a prayer for the starlings
A hot, dry wind beats their ragged wings
Have a thought for the starlings
No one ever listens to the songs they sing
Say a prayer for the starlings
There's no welcome for them anywhere
Leave some crumbs for the starlings
They say that Winter will be cold this year

She was sitting on a curb by the Seven ElevenĀ®
She asked if I had some spare change
Her skin wore that leathered and windburned look
And the light in her blue eyes was wild and strange
I sat down beside her and asked her her name
She said, "pick one you like, I need something to eat"
And her life made me think
Of the dead leaves in Autumn
Drifting like ghosts down the street

Is the life that we celebrate only a dream
A lie that we serve like a god made of stone
And our hearts are the hunter
    Birds with no nesting place
    Weary and aching for home

    Chorus

Io Canto by Laura Pausini is my current favourite, although my Italian is very sketchy. Nonetheless it's a fantastic album of covers sung by the lady with that great (and slightly husky) voice, backed up by fantastic production. There's some amazing songs on it.

Most of my recently-purchased music is French, but I understand French lyrics.

Oh boy...let's see...one's that quickly come to mind:

Journey - Feelin' That Way (great song to bump and grind to, and the lyrics are somewhat romantic and suggestive, although very open to interpretation.) I've always wished I could sing like Steve Perry. :p

Opened my eyes to a new kind of way
All the good times that you saved
    Are you feeling
    You feeling that way too
    Or am I just
    Am I just a fool
When the summer's gone, she'll be there
    Standing by the light
Once she's been to where she's gone to
She should know wrong from right
    Is she feeling
    Are you feeling
    You feeling that way too
    Or am I just
    Am I just a fool
    A new road's waiting
    You touched my life, whoa
Soft and warm on a summer's night
You're the only one, I told you
    The only one I love
    The lovely one (lovely one)
    I'm thinking of
When the summer's gone, she'll be there
    Standing by the light
Once she's been to where she's gone to
She should know wrong from right
    Is she feeling
    Are you feeling
    You feeling that way too
    Whoa, oh yeah, yeah, yeah
    You feeling that way too
When the summer's gone, she'll be there
    Standing by the light
Once she's been to where she's gone to
She should know wrong from right
    Is she feeling
    Whoa, is she feeling
    Feeling that way
    Oh, my, my, oh
    Feeling that way
    Whoa, oh
    Feeling that way

BuckCherry - Crazy Bitch (sexy, nasty song...could be offensive to some, but most women I know actually like the song! If you beeped this one, there'd be almost no lyrics left.)

Break me down, you got a lovely face
    We're going to your place
And now you got to freak me out
Scream so loud, getting fuckin' laid
You want me to stay, but I got to make my way

    Hey
    You're a crazy bitch
But you fuck so good, I'm on top of it
When I dream, I'm doing you all night
Scratches all down my back to keep me right on

    Hey
    You're a crazy bitch
But you fuck so good, I'm on top of it
When I dream, I'm doing you all night
Scratches all down my back to keep me right on

Take it off, the paper is your game
You jump in bed with fame
Another one night paid in full, uh
You're so fine, it won't be a loss
Cashing in the rocks, just to get you face to face

    Get the video
    Fuck you so good
    Get the video
    Fuck you so good

    Crazy bitch
    Crazy bitch
    Crazy...bitch

Scratches all down my back, come on

    Baby girl
    You want it all
    To be a star
    You'll have to go down
    Take it off
    No need to talk
    You're crazy
But I like the way you fuck me

Scratches all down my back to keep me right on
    You keep me right on

    You're crazy
But I like the way you fuck me

Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten (Great lyrics...reminds me to let myself feel my emotions and to revel in having them)

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
    Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
    Release your innovations
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
    Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
    The rest is still unwritten

    Oh, oh, oh

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way

Staring at the blank page before you
    Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
    Release your inner visions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
    Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
    Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
    The rest is still unwritten

Staring at the blank page before you
    Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
    Release your inner visions
Feel the rain on your skin

Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else

    ...this AM; :headbang:

    No Voices in the Sky

Nobody gives a damn about anybody else,
Think everyone should feel the way they feel themselves,
Rich men think that happiness is a million dollar bills,
So how come half of them O.D. on sleeping pills,
Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, you all know what I mean,
What's the use of a cry for help, if no one hears the screams,
    No one hears the scream,

No voices in the sky, confusion blinds the eye,
Can't take it with you when you die,
    No voices in the sky,

The ones who dedicate the flags to make you brave,
They also consecrate the headstone on your grave,
Ritual remembrance when no one knows your name,
Don't help a single widow learn to fight the pain,

    chorus

Politicians kissing babies for good luck,
T.V. preachers sell salvation for a buck,
You don't need no golden cross, to tell you wrong from right,
The world's worst murderers were those who saw the light.

    chorus *2

    Donovan's "Catch the Wind":
In the chilly hours and minutes,
Of uncertainty, I want to be,
In the warm hold of your loving mind.

To feel you all around me,
And to take your hand, along the sand,
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.

    When sundown pales the sky,
I wanna hide a while, behind your smile,
And everywhere I'd look, your eyes I'd find.

For me to love you now,
Would be the sweetest thing, 'twould make me sing,
Ah, but I may as well, try and catch the wind.

When rain has hung the leaves with tears,
I want you near, to kill my fears
To help me to leave all my blues behind.

    For standin' in your heart,
Is where I want to be, and I long to be,
Ah, but I may as well, try and catch the wind.

    Dylan's "Girl from North Country":
Well, if you're travelin' in the north country fair,
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline,
Remember me to one who lives there.
She once was a true love of mine.

Well, if you go when the snowflakes storm,
When the rivers freeze and summer ends,
Please see if she's wearing a coat so warm,
To keep her from the howlin' winds.

Please see for me if her hair hangs long,
If it rolls and flows all down her breast.
Please see for me if her hair hangs long,
That's the way I remember her best.

I'm a-wonderin' if she remembers me at all.
    Many times I've often prayed
In the darkness of my night,
In the brightness of my day.

So if you're travelin' in the north country fair,
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline,
Remember me to one who lives there.
She once was a true love of mine.

I like the word "FUCK" when it depicts true emotion (political, bad love, etc.) not just fucking raunchy sex! If a song just has the word "Fuck" over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over it's just shitty.

That's just my opinion, and I expressed it to Rose more than once. She still don't understand or something? I was a privet preference, only expressed to Rose but I recon its public record now. Oh well.

I guess it's because I had kids growing up and I have grandkids that I wouldn't want to listen to it on the radio since kids listen to radio songs. And I just don't like raunchy music myself.

    Moving right along here: :lol

NINE INCH NAILS - "Every Day Is Exactly The Same"

I believe I can see the future
Cause I repeat the same routine
I think I used to have a purpose
    But then again
That might have been a dream
I think I used to have a voice
Now I never make a sound
I just do what I've been told
I really don't want them to come around

    Oh, no

    [Chorus:]
Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no love here and there is no pain
Every day is exactly the same

I can feel their eyes are watching
In case I lose myself again
Sometimes I think I'm happy here
    Sometimes, yet I still pretend
I can't remember how this got started
But I can tell you exactly how it will end

    [Chorus]

I'm writing on a little piece of paper
I'm hoping someday you might find
Well I'll hide it behind something
    They won't look behind
    I'm still inside here
A little bit comes bleeding through
I wish this could have been any other way
But I just don't know, I don't know what else I can do

    [Chorus x2]

Why do some singers do that? Don't they know that it just makes them sound stupid and uneducated? I'm not against swearing in songs, but I don't think that it should be done any more than regular speaking. Dylan and Lennon are two of the greatest song writers ever, between them they've sworn maybe in 10 songs?

Raunchy language is for those who can't write songs.
