ICBINB spray (zero fat, zero calories! and it's GOOD). My cat has given it a ringing endorsement, too :tup It would turn your margarine-hating self around, I promise.

I'll only bake with butter, though. It would be sacrilegious to do otherwise.

I really have trouble with this one :ugh

I absolutely LOVE the taste of butter. :( but I know it's so bad for the body. Normally, I use Smart Balance, but ocassionally I get butter for baking (around the holidays) and end up using it - on toast, in my veggies, etc.

I've never seen or heard of it before. Is it at regular grocery stores?

The thought that margarine is better for you than butter is FALSE, according to the heart specialist here. The only exception would be soft margarines, such as Becel. Hard margarines may have less fats, but they are worse for you than the natural fats found in real butter. I had a real cholesterol problem about 10 years ago, coupled with high blood pressure. And at 20 years old that was scary. A diet change worked wonders.

For me, the added flavor of real butter means I use less. And to me that's healthier. So the short answer is that we use butter. And damn it's good!

The majority of GOOD recipes will require butter, but some fake yellow spreads might be good for your cholesterol or if you are allergic to dairy :uhh:

Please Rose (and others) :bow Do not even go there. If you need to cut down then use less, do not go for the chemical substitutes.

In the year 2057 they will discover that the use of margarine leads to a diminishing libido...:eek Stephen Hawking's brother in law, that works for Dairy Farmer's LTD said so. :p

I'm not entirely bothered one way or the other - I take what I can afford, what with not having much money.

I use real butter and the Swede uses margarine, not because it's healthier or less fat, but because it "spreads better." He goes through his a lot faster, too. We buy butter and margarine in identical sized containers and his needs to be replaced three times as often. For cooking, I use this stuff that comes in a squeeze bottle called "Butter and Canola." Otherwise I'll use canola oil or olive oil.

ICBINE has the bad guys "Trans Fats"
I personally use butter and it has a lot of fat, But no trans fats.
Wife uses smart balance "0 colestarol, 0 trans fats."
but their is one out made from rape weed with only the good
colestrol, Though I cant remember it's name.
However in a resturant I order dry toast.

Real Butter is not bad for you in moderation.....Moderation is the key word, though.

I cook with Extra Virgin Olive Oil 99% of the time. We use vegetable oil too when the recipe demands it, particularly with baking.

Shallow fry with olive oil but I use vege oil for the deeper fried dishes. The nicer the olive oil the more use it gets in salads or as a flavoring rather than just something I cook with. Truffle oil is a beautiful flavor enhancer for simple dishes like mash potatoes, While a good virgin olive oil is a necessity for vinaigrettes. I also like to marinate herbs in my virgin olive oil to give it that extra oompf when drizzled on garden salads (Rosemary is a wonderful and strong herb to use for this, thyme is nice too) :drool
