What do you think of a woman who continues to wear her engagement ring months after a break-up with her now ex-fiance before the wedding even happened? Its on the right middle finger.

wierd.. maybe she is not sure what to do with it. If i was not gonna get married i would give the ring back. I think thats what most people do science the ring signifies the marriage.

it tells me she's not over him, which is fair enough. If she loved him enough to want to marry him, she won't be over him after a few months.

She had her heart set on marrying him. She also still has the wedding dress as well. I don't really know what happened between them for the wedding to be called off and then their relationship ended. I heard rumors that the guy got caught cheating on her not long before the wedding was supposed to happen.

Yeah this is one of those things where a lot more info is needed before any kind of "judgment" can be made.

I don't know about cut off enguagements, but I know a few guys that kept wearing their rings after a divorce, not from love, but made it easier to pick up women.

In a legal court most judges would return the ring to the guy. It's a contractual thing. I used to watch the People's Court.:p

Unless the ring was given at a birthday, Valentines or Christmas, then it's considered a gift.

If he was in the wrong, you bet your behind I wouldn't be giving that ring back.

depends on the judge.. some would consider it still a gift even if it was accepted with the intent to marry

Unless the guy tells the girl to keep it she should return it and not wear it, or sell, get rid of it.

If it's true he cheated on her, maybe he feels like enough of a heel as it is, without having the gall to ask for the ring back, too.

Of course, that's just mere speculation...

I think she should sell it and take a mini-vacation.

Actually, a ring is traditionally given to show promise to care for the woman after the wedding. It was a kind of insurance policy that if he did break it off she had something to fall back on money wise. She can do what she bloody likes with the ring. He gave it to her.

In indiana, whoever pays for the ring is the rightful owner should the relationship break down, as per Fowler v. Perry.

But in New York the law seems to be different, as per Marshall v. Cassano.

    Or in the UK:
"In Britain, if the man ends the engagement then the woman is usually entitled to keep the engagement ring. If the woman breaks the engagement then the man is legally entitled to the return of the ring. However if the ring was offered as part of a gift, for example on Christmas day or Valentines day then it will be seen as a gift and does not need to be returned." (Read the full article)

So it depends on where she resides.

In South Africa the ring was given as a gift and therefore belongs to the woman. Morally however, if I were to break it off I would give it back. He breaks it off, it is MINE!!!
