Hi y'all. I've been wanting to start this thread but waited until I finally figured out why my tablet wouldn't post a song in the conventional way. I actually joined a tech forum to get some help.

Anyway, I hope this won't be too similar to the other music threads. I would like to know which songs you love, and what I mean by this is: which songs would you desperately miss if for some reason they were taken away and you had no way of ever listening to them again? To make it more interesting, please tell me why. People are fascinating, and this could be a fun way for us to get to know each other better.

    Some things to consider....which songs....

Helped you through a difficult time?
    Make you smile?
    Remind you of someone?
Are the best example of (fill in blank)?
    Have a certain something?
Remind you of a certain event or period of time in your life?

There are gobs of other things I could list, but this will hopefully help us get started. Please feel free to post multiple songs. I will probably listen to most of the ones I don't know.

I am going to let this post serve as an intro, so I will post my first song in the next several minutes.

I love rock and some metal mostly because of my uncle who is like a second father to me....sure hope he's not on this forum..lol! He introduced me to all sorts of rock, and I've never looked back. He likes the older songs that would fall under the heading, classic rock. I like those too, but one of my favorite songs of all time is from the 1990s.

It is Soundgarden's "Pretty Noose". I put a quote from this song in my signature in honor of Soundgarden's new album which will be released next month. They reunited a couple of years ago, but this will be their first studio album since maybe 1995 or 1996(?). They broke up when I was in high school. They did, by the way, record a single for the movie, the Avengers.

Why do I love this song? Simply because it sounds amazing, especially when the volume is cranked up. I particularly like the guitar in the intro and on the word, "from", which occurs at the end of what I've quoted in my signature.

Chris Cornell has a great voice, and he also has some pretty spooky looking eyes and amazing hair. I like but do not love his work in Audioslave, and his solo stuff is good but not awesome. May the forty something rocker and his band mates continue on as Soundgarden!

I am going to post Ramble On by Zep because it seems like it is a favorite for a couple of us on this thread. My first boyfriend took me to see Robert Plant in 2002. He played before the Who performed, and he really didn't sound so great that night. He just seemed off.

Zep is a favorite of both my uncle and my first boyfriend. You can hear a little Zep influence in some of the Soundgarden songs.

Well here it is! I had never heard it before, which obviously means I've never seen the movie. It's great to have a song that always makes you smile!

I am actually familiar with and like Avenged Sevenfold. They're not one of my very favorites, but what I like about them is that they do metal with a melody pretty well. Some metal seems to have no melody at all. Their videos are pretty creepy, and speaking of creepy, I am not familiar with MGMT so I took a peek at that song, and I couldn't watch it. I might go back and listen to it with my eyes closed...lol! I'm not familiar with Slipknot either.

This is a hard one as there is sooo many songs I love.
    Let's pick a list.

    Akira Yamaoka - Promise (reprise)
    Room of Angel
    Magdalene
These are songs from a series of games that have had a big impact on me and when ever I listen to these I get a feeling of nostalgia and sadness.

    Ali Project - Gesshouku Guranginyoru
This song has a very special sound that I just love! It's upbeat and happy.

    Basic Element - Shame
Just a damn good song that makes me feel good

Black Spiders - What Good's A Rock Without A Roll?
I like all Black Spiders' songs. They remind me of good old rock that you don't hear much anymore.

    Bob Dylan - Hurricane
This is an odd one. This song has been forever connected to the game Silent Hill 4 for me. Whenever I hear it I think of that game.

Daft Punk - Human After All
A classic Daft Punk song. It has a certain sound I just love.

Dan Hartman - Relight My Fire
Oh yeah! This is one. good. song. I can't listen to this one enough.

Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Around
Need I explain? Classic 80's song. Weird and awesome at the same time!

    Delerium - Serenity
Helps me relax and think calm thoughts.

    Deus Ex - UNATCO Theme
If I were to ever have a personal theme, this would be it.

    Dolly Parton - Jolene
Awesome sound. Can't get enough of it.

    Duran Duran - Runway Runaway
Classic 80's sound only it was made quite recently.

    Enya - Caribbean Blue
If I had to choose only one song to ever listen to this would be it.
    This song is me.

    Grum - Cybernetic
Another song with a very special sound that I just love.

    Guardian Legend - Intro Theme
One of the best NES songs ever.

Hiroshi Yamaguchi - Let's Dance Boys
When I first heard this song in it's full lenght at the end of Bayonetta I was almost in chock of how damned. good. this. bloody. song. is!

Jethro Tull - The Witch's Promise
Connects to me on a personal level for some reason. Don't know why.

Joddla Med Siv - Tony Tuggar Tuggummi
A local band with awesome songs and even awesomer (that's a word now) lyrics.

    Ladytron - Burning Up
    I'm Not Scared
    Mirage
They Gave You A Heart, They Gave You A Name
Ladytron is probably my favorite band of all time!

Mark Marik - I Just Wanna Know
I usually don't like this type of music too much but this one has the extra spark.

    Masafumi Takada - Rave On
    Killer7. 'nuff said.

Masami Ueda - Graveyards Of The Memories Of Time
If there ever was a place with angels. This is the song that would play there.

Men Without Hats - Safety Dance
Do I need to explain? t's friggin Safety Dance!

Michael McCann - Opening Credits (Deus Ex Human Revolution)
The song to go with the most epic intro sequence of all time. Sends chills down my spine every time.

Michiru Oshima - You Were There
So beautiful. In fact it's so beautiful it makes me cry.

    Moby - Procelain
Awesome song. Also sort of marks when I said "screw you" to mainstream radio played music and started looking for music on my own.

Nathan McCree - Main Theme (Tomb Raider)
Again very beautiful. Can't get enough of it.

    Nik Kershaw - The Riddle
    Classic 80's.

R.E.M. - Try Not To Breathe.
    I just love R.E.M. Period. :)

    Stevie Nicks - Blue Lamp
Has a sound I love. Feels good to listen to.

Terry S. Taylor - Southern Fron Porch Whistler (The Neverhood)
THE whistle song. I whistle this all the time.

    The Gone Jackals - Legacy
    Full Throttle anyone?

The Kinks - All Day And All Of The Night
Has so much soul. Can't get enough.

The Outlaws - Green Grass And High Tides
A very long and very awesome song.

And that is my non-exhausted list of important songs to me.

Another song I love is less than a year old. It's called "Bully" by Shinedown. My favorite thing about it is the bass in the opening and other parts of the song. My dad builds his own speakers and has always loved bass sounds. Me too. I love music that is hard and fast and loud, and this accomplishes all of these things.

The song is a social commentary about bullying. Lead singer Brent Smith has an awesome vocal range, and he also writes both music and lyrics. He might just be my favorite newer lyricist (Shinedown got its start maybe a decade ago). He is a true poet.
