Do you ever use the word "queer" as a collective noun to refer to your sexuality? I have a 60+ gay friend who hates the word because it was definately a negative term when he was a young adult/teenager. So I never use it around him anymore. But its clearly gaining strength as a positive label for anyone not of "straight" sexuality... The tv programme "Queer eye for the straight guy" - for instance.

So, do you use it or not use it? Or do you use it, but are selective who you use it with. (E.g. You would say to you best mate "Yep, Uncle Howard's queer", but not to your granny?)...

The word has changed its connotation and perhaps meaning in the past hundred years. I do use it to describe myself.

I think that it also has to do where you are. I have seen that most people do not mind it - especially these days - as popular as Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Now only if they made Queer Eye for the Queer Guy ;)

I think I would have to call these guys up then. I have serious problems with my apartment.

I do believe that what queer means depends on who is saying it, where and in what connotation.
