is having a plate of pizza slices in front of you. You're down to one last slice and you're just stuffed. You let out a roar of a belch and all of the sudden you have room for 3 more.

Because it takes around a half an hour after eating for your stomach to fill up. You have to stop eating before you feel full. For good pizza, a little indigestion is a small price to pay though, yeah? :)

I was on medication for a serious illness, and as a result of the side-effects of the meication I am diabetic. No pizza for me I am afraid, I haven't had one in several years. It is the simple things in life you often miss the most.

    Jayce,
I had a serious auto-immune disease which was causing damage to my lungs. Indeed my lungs are quite badly scarred, but fortunately I am a fit person so my actual lung function is not degraded at all. My specialist thought I had 'super capacity' lungs, and my super lungs have been reduced in function to normal. Lucky boy was I.

If I hadn't taken cortisone to halt the ongoing lung damage, I would have ended up on an oxygen cylinder. So it was known I would become diabetic, but it was very much the lesser of two evils. My pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin, which is partial type I diabetes.

This is the second occurance of my condition, the first occurance damaged nerves in my spinal cord (swelling of the menges), which as given me mobility problems. My legs lack feeling and coordination, and the muscles are pulled tight and always painful. I use a walking stick to get around, and I can only drive an automatic car because my left leg is okay and I can left-foot brake. Again I was lucky, if the condition hadn't stopped when it did, I would have been paralysed from the waist down at the age of 27 just two months after I got married!

These two outbreaks changed my pespective on life quite a bit, especially in terms of sex. My sex life has almost been destroyed twice, and I am more driven to explore and experience as much good sex as I can pack into my life. I am totally against anyone who complains 'their wife doesn't want to have sex anymore'. With my frame of mind, regardless of the other parts of the relationship, I would leave. Similarly those who wait for marriage to have sex - what crap! Wait until you get something like I did, and your sex life is over before it started?

For heavens sake, none of us know what is around the corner. Life is for living, and we have to make the most of every day and every opportunity.

For me, the diabetes is easy to control because it is adult-onset type I, and I don't have weight and lifestyle issues to deal with. I have changed my diet, I test myself about once a week and get good blood glucose readings, I get excellent HBA1C results. Over time, my insulin production will continue to decline, and I will have to increase the dosage of insuline producing medication. Ultimately, I will end up on insulin injections, but hopefully some years down the track. Insulin injections are bad, but for now I still live my life with desperation, so when the time comes, I won't look back with regrets.

The stomach full signal doesn't happen until about half an hour after you finish eating. So if you eat until full, you are overeating. Everyone should eat until you feel like you can eat a little more, and then stop. If you don't, you will put on weight. If you do, you will have less problem controlling your weight. Less indigestion too.

Yeah. He's right. But I didn't know it was 30 minutes. I always heard it was 15 minutes. Anyways, you guys get the idea.

cbrmale - Why are the injections bad? I know some people take the pills now for ease of use but I never heard that the injections were "bad" by any means. *shrug*
