As an aging redhead I have the unfortunate thin, pale skin and when I get cold -- even slightly -- my whole body looks like purple lace! Very unappealing in a sexual nature.

I've checked into spray tans and found they stink and have a taste. My man kisses/licks me ALL over so that won't work! Any ideas for this dilemma?

in my experience, it DOES have a smell to it, which probably means it has an odd taste as well. i believe all spray-on tans do, whether they are done professionally or at home. there aren't many other options besides using a tanning bed or laying in the sun, i don't think...

As a redhead, I burn easily then just go back to white -- never have been tanned. So, I don't know if a tanning bed would work or not. ????

From what I've heard, they aren't real safe either. My wife is very fair skinned, and very cold natured. Doesn't bother me a bit. And tanning beds are a perscription for cancer. Just go natural.

You've been with your wife and you love her so you probably don't care if her skin mottles when cold. :D However, my man does love me but I feel very uncomfortable exposing my skin to him -- very insecure -- as it does not look healthy or very sensual for that matter.

I should clarify -- I've been in a long distance relationship with him for 7 months and we will be together the end of March. We Skype a lot and I've shown him my arms when they get that mottled look. He says 'Ewww' but says nothing about it being a turn-off for him. However, it doesn't show up on camera as well as it would in real life. So, I'm a little nervous about it.

A lot of people use self tanning lotions. I have not heard that they taste funny after application. But, I have no personal experience here. I would assume the lotions wouldnt be used if they tasted or smelled THAT bad. I assume it is tolerable ?

Be careful though, those self tanning lotions when used improperly turn some people ORANGE, and that isn't attractive. Usually it is from over application of the self tanner, but maybe some people skin pigment and the self tanner combo create a orangish complexion ?

I have read that there are better ones now that don't turn orange but, yes, they have a taste and a smell. :(

Yes, they can turn you orange if you are very fair skinned especially. I have only gotten a spray tan after I had been out in the sun and had a base tan. I had a friend who used the at home self tanner and she had very very light skin... as it was fading away, it faded but it got... spotty? I guess that is the best way to describe it.

If you do choose to use a tanning bed, do NOT spend the entire allowable time in there. It seems silly, but start at 3-5 minutes. Then return a few days later and do the same or up it by a minute based on how your skin reacts, and continue doing that until you are going in for the full time, if you want to. Once you get a base tan and are going for 15 minutes, it is most effective to only go back once per week. Some people think that going every day is going to give them the best tan. It's not.

Thanks bunches sessuale! That may be what I have to do -- just gradual tanning. I wonder if that would be enough to camouflage my mottly skin?

Yes, we've been married for 25yrs, together 30. How about you just crank up the heat so you don't get blotchy. If he really loves you, he won't really care.

He is going to have the heat cranked up for me, gladly, but there are many times that doesn't work and I still look mottled. Soaking in a hot tub helps a lot but he only has a shower so that's not going to be an option. *sigh*

I think that if he loves you, it shouldn't bother him too much. I understand though if you want to feel good for yourself too. That's a natural desire. As long as you are aware of the risks associated with tanning beds, you can make your own decision.

What happens if you two spend more time together; will you tan forever? Just something to think about. It may not bother him as much as you think it does. :)

You must have some sort of circulatory problem, are there no drugs you can take to minimize the condition?

Yes, I hate the way my skin looks so it's mainly my own insecurities. You're right, it may not bother him.
No, I wouldn't tan forever. I'm just worried about our first time together and want to look good for him.

Yes it is. It's called livedo reticularis and is aggravated by cold exposure.Other than the mottling, it causes no symptoms and there is no treatment.

I have a doc appointment this afternoon and will discuss this but have been told before that there is nothing to be done about it except to stay covered and warm. -- Hard to do that when one is naked during sex. ;)

My wife had Raynaud's disease, another cold issued disease. Her fingers go white to purple and are ice cold. She actually has a doctors excuse to park close to her office building if it's below 50 degrees. A nurse at her facility lost a few toes to it. They've treated hers with a blood pressure medication but if it get's worse, they put her on Viagra.

I have that also! Have had for years. My fingers turn pure white/bloodless and I have to run them under warm water to get the blood back into them. I'll be sure to mention that to my doc this afternoon as I am going in to be checked for high BP. Thanks!!

They have to watch the blood pressure meds my wife takes for the Raynauds. She already has low normal blood pressure without the meds.

Just got back from doc a bit ago. BP is fairly high but not too bad, she put me on a mild med for it. She said the mottled skin is normal for pale skins when chilly and nothing can be done about it.

I talked to my guy about it and he asked if the mottling bothered me. I said no, that I've put up with it for years and was used to it being like that. Then he said if it didn't bother me then to stop worrying about it, it didn't bother him. Whew! So, that's out of the way and all is fine. :D
