Where were you when the space shuttle crashed?

I was in 5th grade. It was someone's birthday, we were eating cupcakes. I know the kids name still but obviously won't say :)

I was working in the state legislature.

No laws were made that day. Everything stopped.

I was working in my repair shop and had come in the house to fight with my wife. She had the TV on and we watched it. Believe it or not, I noticed the flash that ignited the fuel tanks before the started talking about it. We were so surprised about what happened after so many successful uneventful missions we completely forgot about fighting.

I was hunting in Illinois on the day the other one blew up on re-entry. It was a calm frosty morning and when my friend and I got back in the truck they were telling what happened on the radio. I assume that's what we heard anyway.

In college. They had it on the nightly news and I started laughing, I know that's not politically correct..... my wife let me know right away, but I was instantly thinking of all of the jokes that went around after that. I know it was a somber moment, but the jokes came flowing back, I couldn't help it.

    Which one?
    Challenger (1986) - Not born
Columbia (2003) - Probably stoned behind the gym of my middle school.
    Enterprise (2014) - Probably asleep.

I remember being shaken awake and told the Columbia blew up, and, in atired fashion, I asked what would happen to the cocaine industry.

I wasn't alive in 86 but it was my brothers birthday. Living in fl the students got to watch the launch. From what I've heard he was devastated.

For the Columbia I remember watching about it on TV at my nana and papa's house.

I also wasn't born in 86, but when I was old enough to understand what was going on, and saw the footage...my gut just sank. I felt sick. :( I hope we never see something like that again.

Imagine those of us old enough to be parents of those that weren't born yet.

Wow, guys - way to turn this into a pity party for those over the age of 30.

You all being so mopey and resentful of youth is making me feel old and tired. :p

Did something happen to the Enterprise in 2014? I did a Google search and I couldn't find anything.

I guess it wasn't Official since it wasn't NASA - it was Virgin - and it was a test flight; not an official launch.

The intro from the Wiki entry:
"On October 31, 2014, VSS Enterprise, a Virgin Galactic Scaled Composites Model 339 SpaceShipTwo experimental spaceflight test vehicle, suffered a catastrophic in-flight breakup and crashed in the Mojave Desert, California, United States while performing a test flight.[1][2] The co-pilot, Michael Alsbury, was killed and the pilot, Peter Siebold, was seriously injured."
