I have just gone back to shaving, after taking a short break from it, and I already have a couple of little spots where the hair is growing back under the skin... help anyone?

Waxing.....it's worth every penny. I've been going to a waxing salon for years because of the very problems you're encountering. It's smoother, lasts longer and no bumps or ingrown hairs.
At first it was uncomfortable and embarrassing, but after one visit with a stranger exploring your every intimate nook and cranny, any reservations you may have go away.

I have no idea if any of this stuff will be helpful or not as i got them all from different web sits ....
but i hope they can help a little

    Dove moisturiser maybe

    apply razer bump cream
"stop bump" is the stuf ive got, works pretty good. 4 bucks a little bottle.. from Superstore.

Proper BABY WASH with a neutral pH, no tear formula seems to be safe to me for every day use as a lubricant for shaving.

The next time you shave-make sure you sit in warm water for at least 5-10 minutes before you shave. Always use new and good blade. You must also buy good after shave lotion or crème. It will work-believe me! 9 I personly wouldnt go for any after shave lotion ( unless it was non alc. )
After your skin will be much less irritable and you will not have any problems related to this.

It seems that the women who do get away with shaving have either super fine hair, and have had little trouble with it since day one.

There are products made especially for shaving that area, such as "Coochie Cream", and there are nice anti irritation/anti chaffing gels, (Monistat makes this one that is really nice) but the red bumps, ingrown hairs, etc., still persist for many, let alone the nasty stubble that crops up in a day or two. :ugh

Nair has a special cream for the 'bikini area', and the hair does grow back seemingly softer, but WATCH OUT! Get that stuff on your clit or inner lips for a few minutes without knowing, and you'll be hurting. :( Been there, done that.

I tried both shaving and Nair, and then resorted to waxing, and it's worth the pain and cost by far. They DO get every 'nook and cranny' and it is slightly embarrassing the first few times, but a professional will know how to make you comfortable, and get it over with quickly. (Mine takes about 30 minutes from when I strip to when I leave, and costs about $60.) And after having it done for some time, most report their hair growing back softer and less thick, that has been my experience as well.

If a smooth puss is what you prefer, a good clean wax can be worth the pain. ;)

I've been shaving every time I take a shower for about two months now. The bumps/itching is just starting to subside. I've heard it takes a few months for it to not itch anymore.

    Keep persevering. :)

Ask the salon if they offer a two pussy discount. That way you and your friend can save some $$.
Sounds like Naughty goes to the same place as I do. They are thorough. Mine does belly button to butt crack.
When you're done, you and your friend can compare. That's fun too!
