The purpose of this thread is not to put all of your contact info out there, but actually the opposite. I think it could cause problems if we posted our contact info, being a sex site and all. Anyway, the idea is to post up the programs that you use so that we have a way that we might be able to contact members that we have talked to on the forum, without having to type out a PM everytime we want to chat someone up. I would like to see this thread stay anonymous, just like the rest of :sf. If you want to share your actual contact info, please handle that via PM. I would suggest only sharing that information with people that you have had interaction with here (picture comments don't count:p).

    Anyway, I'll start. I use:

    Yahoo! Messenger
    Google Talk
Windows Live Messenger (formerly MSN Messenger)

If anyone wants my contact info, feel free to send me a PM.:D

The reason I only use those 3 is because I have them on my BlackBerry, as well as AIM and ICQ (which I have never liked). It makes it easy for me respond to messages while I am on the go or at home. I prefer to use my computer at home, but sometimes the BlackBerry is easier. That actually reminds me, I actually forgot one:

    BlackBerry Messenger

I actually used Trillian quite a while back. It seemed nice at first, but something happened that really killed it for me. I ended up moving on to Pidgin, then decided I didn't need it for the couple of IM programs that I used it for. When I boot into Linux on my computer, there's another one I have tried that is similar to Pidgin (may actually be the same program with a different name), but I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head. I tried Skype once upon a time, but didn't really care for it. I don't know what it was, but for some reason, I just didn't like it.:(

I think it was the fact that it went to a paid service for the features I wanted.

See, this conversation wouldn't be taking up space in this thread if we were having it via IM.:lol

It does look like Trillian might have dropped the paid service, I may have to look into it again. At the time that I switched from it, I was actually needing what they called Trillian Pro. This was around 6 or 7 years ago. The one that I use when I boot into Linux is called Empathy. It is worth looking into, though I am not sure there is a Windows version. I may have to look into that.

Trillion Pro is still a paid service.
I have the regular trillion..I think and it's free, and I use it for just about everything.

I miss the simplicity of Pidgin/Gaim though...
There was a leek in it somewhere a while back that fucked up ALL of my settings and caused me a lot of hassle, so I just deleted it and went with trillion. I may check out pidgin again if it's been fixed.

    Skype
    YIM

One of my pet peeves is trying to instant message with someone using a phone. I dispise text speak and don't like wasting my time waiting for someone to type one liners at me. When I chat, I like to have a conversation, not something short enough to be a Twitter entry.

I have noticed a lot of times that even people using a computer tend to use text lingo. Especially the younger crowd. Hell, I don't even speak text when I am sending a text.:lol

Pidgin isn't like Yahoo or any of the other ones, really. It is more of the type that consolidates several IM protocols into one program. So you would be able to use Yahoo, Windows Live, AIM, ICQ, mIRC, and several others without having to have a separate program running for each of them. It is also what is called Open Source, so the source code is readily available, and you are free to change it however you see fit, so long as you know how. It is basically along the same lines as Trillian. Pidgin used to come packaged in the Linux version that I use, but they recently changed that to a program called Empathy, which does the same thing but is Linux only.
