As some of you know, my life goal is to open and own my own bakery within the next ten years. To help me along the way and make a little extra cash on the side, I do simple cake and pastries for pay on the side.

Anything from cupcakes for a birthday party, elegant cookies for a wedding (I actually made my own wedding favor cookies for MY wedding)

I've been baking a lot more recently due to the higher demand for cakes and confections in the summer and graduations.

I was actually asked by the head of Human Resources for my husbands Job to make a graduation cake for her daughter's boyfriend. I was given very little information other then his name, school mascot and school colors and that he likes basket ball. lol.

I had NO idea what to do, so this is what I cake up with.

What you can't see is that the cake is actually gold. Looks more yellow but the fondant has edible gold dust totally mixed in with it and then with the gold dust mixed in vodka, I sponged it onto the fondant to make it even more gold. It sparkles, oh it sparkles. lol

I know that some may complain that the decorations aren't edible, but I cleared it with her and she said it was totally fine.

I do have a few imperfections on the cake, but over all, I'm proud of what I did. I've only been baking for profit for about a year, and I'm completely self taught, so I can't be perfect right off the bat.

"Operation Cake" as my husband put it went over successfully and made it to work without so much as a bump in the road. (transferring the cake was my main fear) So now it's in the hands of it's rightful owner and I'm I've got more experience under my belt and a check in my wallet. :)

For the record, the top of the cake around reads "Congrats Cody Class of 2011"

If I tell you what's under the decorations you may want to eat it more :p

It's a moist yellow and chocolate marbled cake. I used whipped egg whites and instant pudding mix in the batters so make the cakes moist without being too dense.

The icing is a mocha icing made with Hershey's coco powder and a quarter cup of fresh coffee (not the dutch processed, that's too bitter). I could eat the icing by the spoon full!

The fondant is home made, hand rolled marshmallow fondant. Not that nasty rolled fondant you buy in the boxes or tubs from the store. :)

Everything from the inside out was hand made from scratch ^_^

Bottle of vodka, palm full of gold dust, and voila, you're a nartist!

That looks beautiful. I wish the camera had done it justice.

I completely agree. I feel my parents generation was the last one to hold traditional values like learning how to cook. I don't ever have a girl cook or bake for me unless it's spaghetti or chocolate chip cookies.. Good job mitt that outdoes anything I seen done.

Heh, Ian was making fun of me for using the Vodka, but it's the only thing we had that would dry without leaving the cake stupid sticky. Lol

Thanks for the compliment though. :) <3

Why thank you! I actually enjoy baking/cooking so I'm normally in the kitchen by choice. Ian always fights to help me and normally I let him unless it's things like the cake. :)
