I see a lot of talk about masturbation - here on SF and elsewhere.
It's good. It's bad. It's normal. It's for freaks. It's healthy. It's damaging... Every imaginable thing has been said about it, it would seem.
So! I wanted to see what everyone else on here has heard and/or believes and/or knows about masturbation!

I'll kick off with this nugget of wisdom that I recently was told by a "concerned friend":
If a man masturbates too frequently he can permanently kill his sex drive and ability to climax.

It is possible to become addicted to any sort of sensation. Sexual stimulation causes a release of happy chemicals in the brain. Therefore, one can accidentally train the body to become used to only one particular kind of stimulation. This can happen if one masturbates the same way, over, and over, and over. I know from experience.

However, if one masturbates in a variety of ways, the chance of becoming addicting to any particular feeling is drastically reduced.

This "permanent" killing of one's sex drive is completely false, because any addiction can be reversed (although it takes a lot of effort, maybe also sex therapy - I guess that's why your friend hasn't succeeded).

    My thoughts on masturbation?
    - Masturbation is wonderful
    - Masturbation allows us to try new things out on ourselves first, thus better understanding our own body
    - Solo play can be as or more satisfying than mutual sex and is therefore a great compliment to mutual sex
    - Variety in masturbation (and sex in general) is important

Masturbation does NOT cause carpal tunnel syndrome.

No carpal tunnel here Kid but I did have a "BAD" case of masturbation tendonitis once - took years of practice to overcome - I now have forearms like Popeye :D.

But on a serious note - not a damn thing wrong with masturbation but I choose not to indulge anymore as I prefer to save all my sexual energies for my interactions with my wife - we have delved into Tantric practice and energy transfer and really get off on maximizing each others endorphin release for more pleasure and the best possible experience. By saving myself for her I bring more energy to the table - and we have found this triggers an enhanced response from her - and we feed off each others elevated energy state to get to a higher place than either one of us could get on our own.

I'm lucky, I guess. I don't have any tendons in my dick.

Another that I've heard uttered in complete seriousness:
If you masturbate and then a girl touches wherever you finished (even if you clean up) she will get pregnant!

Is that why I'm having to get my spectacles (that's spectacles) changed so often.

There might be something there... didn't need glasses until I turned 11 which is just about the same time I started... Oh no! Maybe it isn't a myth!

Too much masturbating/fantasizing/watching porn over long spans of time without actually having any sex can give a person unrealistic expectations or over-idealized view of sex and what it should be like.

Not sure if that's a myth or fact...seems like it's probably true, but idk

It really depends on the person. I used to watch a ton of porn without actual sex. It didn't change my views on it.

How many times do you hear this Oral contraceptives are to be swallowed. Inserting them vaginally will not make the more effective because it is closer to the source!!!!!

Inserting oral contraceptives vaginally IS more effective (closer to source). Also wearing two or more condoms layered provides more protection. And a condom can be used, rinsed, and re-used...

(The things I hear people say...)
