I don't know anyone that actually celebrates. There might be some official government ceremonies in some cities but mostly it's just a day off with pay for government workers and some companies.

Bleh, I'm pretty unhappy about today, waiting for some important things to come in the mail, and now they're delayed. Sucks :(

:( that doesnt sound good.....sorry you have to wait for your much needed post ( always a pain in the .... waiting for those sorts of postal items to arrive )
The Silver lining in a way, ( A friend of mine tried sending me some mail , by recorded delivery ....thats meant to be a very fast way to get it, normaly a few days tops....well it arrived in France a few days after it was posted, but it took an extra 4 weeks for it to be delivered to my home ....now thats a very efficient French postal service hehehe)

It mainly celebrates the "founding fathers" of the nation, like George Washington, Abe Lincoln, etc. and not the current or recent leaders.

Heh, as I told my husband this morning "I'm not getting my mail today because we're celebrating 200+ years of liars, adulterers and thieves. Awesome!"

While some of our presidents do deserve a lot of respect, others are horribly shameful to their office and our country and I will shut my mouth at this point :)

*mumbles about being broke for the next couple days*
