I'm unemployed right now and drying up my savings :( Usually around this time of the year I donate a few hundred dollars to this charity: http://www.heifer.org/

It kind of works like this. You buy an animal (or a few other things, I do animals) and they get sent to needy families / villages. They teach the people how to raise the animals and the guidelines are strict that they can't slaughter the animal and when the animals reproduce, they have to give the offspring to another family and do the same.

I was hoping all you sexies at :sf could donate $10 or something, so that they don't miss the contribution that I can't afford this year. :)

They are used to feed the hungry. Once they reach a certain age they can be slaughtered. It's more about learning to care for livestock than the livestock itself.

I feed the hungry too, I was in a soup kitchen earlier for two hours. :D

Good for you!!!!! Ok, I get it....so they learn life skills, then use the animals for food. Hmmmm. that may be worth it...........
