I started hormal birth control in my new relationship, i'm 20. So I have been on it for about a year now. I have physical side affects of non stop vaginal bleeding so I wanted to stop taking them to get my hormones balanced. But I also noticed that I became way more horny once they started to wear off. I used to be alittle bit phobic of touching and being touched, preferring for him to just have his way with me as quickly as possible. Now I love it I love him touching me I love kissing I love everything about it. Any one else had a reduced libido from hormonal birth control? Also am looking for a good non hormonal birth control now, leaning towards IUD.

I think this happens to quite a few women.

Birth control can do crazy things to a woman's body-I find that for myself, it's a necessary evil, because I don't think it's good for you at all-too much estrogen.

What type of hormonal birth control are you taking? I'm taking the pill and haven't noticed any significant reduction in my sex drive. There was, however, a dramatic decrease when I was taking the birth control shot, Depo Provera. My libido went away altogether, in fact. I also had no periods when I was on it. However, like Dreama mentioned, hormonal birth control affects different women in different ways.

The copper IUD is the most effective non-hormonal birth control device there is, although if you had problems with cramps and bleeding before, then keep in mind that the IUD can worsen those problems.

I think it's about time that the male birth control pill became available. Let the men experience the joy of hormonal alteration for a change.

I took birth control pills and they DID definitely decrease my sex drive. I didn't even realize it at the time because the decreased libido occurred slowly over a period of time. When I got my tubes tied and got off the pill, I was surprised that I really had a strong sex drive again. I understand though that there are now different choices in BC meds, and trying another one may help with the problem.

An ex gf of mine was on that depo shot, and it really messed her up. I don't know if it reduced her libido -- sure didn't seem like it, but she became a mess with uncontrolled shivering for hours on end. She saw several specialists including some at a major university hospital. Nobody knew what was wrong with her. Then a friend told her she'd had similar problems after getting the depo shot. She stopped getting the shot and the problems went away.

I take Yaz, and it makes me make less lube and also takes me longer to O, and it isn't quite as strong when I do, however, I still have the libido/drive to do it just as often.
