When your guy is in a grouchy, sourpuss mood - I call it (IMS: Irritable Male Syndrome), do you ignore it and hope it goes away? Do you stroke his ego? Try to cheer him up? Give him a lecture about looking on the bright side?

"What do you do when your better half takes a turn for the worse?"

For me, skip the lecture. Give me some space, but don't completely ignore me. I need to know that you're there, but I need some time to myself to work through it. When I'm walking by just stop and give me a warm hug, but say nothing. That's usually enough to make me melt.

Obvious attempts to cheer me up usually make me feel worse.

Us men can be complicated beings too. :lol

I just now asked Mrs E what she does and her simple reply was, "Ignore him."

Can't say as I ever noticed, so it must work for her at least. LOL

I usually give him a hug and kiss, tell him I'm here if he needs anything and leave him be for a while. I won't venture near a lecture of any sort or even trying to console him, or stroke his ego, he seems to need some sign of affection and then he needs to be left alone for a bit. That's fine with me, I'm just glad I've finally figured that formula out so I know what to do! ;)

:lol - I usually ignore him, if it's simply a "mood". If there's a real problem, we'll talk about it. And invariably, I'll still have to tell him to "look on the bright side" once or twice. :eyes

(Honestly? I try to get in his pants and distract him.) If it's serious, we talk and I try to be as positive as I can.

If he comes home cranky from work I ask if he wants to talk about it...he rarely does. So, we turn on the tv, make a frozen pizza, and i'll usually offer a back rub, or cuddle if he'll let me... after an episode or 2 of csi, all is usually well

I'm like you Naughty Knickers. I give him a kiss and hug and say that I'm here if he needs me. Sometimes he 'll want to talk about and sometimes he won't. :shrug

Most of us don't like to admit that we're having a bad day. It's almost like a failure for us men when something manages to beat us down. I think that's partly the reason we don't like to talk about it. It's like we don't want to admit that something is bothering us. :shrug

Like I said, we can be complicated creatures at times.

Offering support is often enough. If it's a serious problem, chances are he'll talk about it.

I ignore mine too; unless it really is something we need to talk about!
Thank you for all the replies! :)

Exactly the same here. I can't add a thing. :) Except maybe hand me 3 cold beers and tell me it's chug-time. ;)

I just kiss him, and try taking his mind off of whatever is bothering him.
