I'm curious to see how many on here regularly/routinely get themselves "tested" for all the various... ailments that can arise from sexual activity. Also interested in the general consensus on STD testing (usefulness, accuracy, &c).

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume we all practice safer sex practices (there's "no such thing as safe sex" after all), but do you still get yourself checked regardless of that?

To answer my own inquiry: Since becoming sexually active I've been getting myself checked out every other month. I let that schedule lapse when I have not been active, but I have been raised to be paranoid about that - even if I am with someone I know is "clean" and "safe."

So, asking again: Do you get tested for STDs and such regularly? Irregularly? Never?

My professional opinion since after this type of testing is inclusive in my work.
Anytime you have unprotected sex with a new partner or one that has concurrent other sexual partners it is highly recommended you submit for testing. On the other hand if you are in an ongoing monogamous relationship there is little point in doing so once both parties have initially been cleared. There is a corollary however; some infections have a window period when one might be infected yet test negative and the other status is symptomless carrier such as Herpes that once the initial infection has subsided the individual can remain symptomless yet can still be infective for years.
Come to my lab, say you know me from SF then we charge "mates rates". We will also give you a loyalty card to be stamped on each presentation and the tenth one will be on the house :)

Out of curiosity, what all do you test for? Just herpes, or is there an inclusive test that covers everything? Cost?

Preemptive testing is best. Take her with you. Fuck her in the parking lot afterward, not before. upload_2014-6-12_6-25-14.gif

Never been tested. Things were a bit different back in the late 70s and early 80s and since that time, I've been monogamous. They did the standard screen on my wife when she was pregnant and after being together 14 yrs, she was clean. Haven't had a reason to get one.

I use to get tested for everything when I had my yearly.
Haven't been tested lately... No reason to.

I get tested for everything at my appointment for my annual pap smear.

If I had a higher number of partners, I'd get checked more regularly.

The boyfriend and I are the first and only for each other, so we've never gotten tested.

I used to get tested every month but now I don't. The last time I was tested was when I was pregnant.

No you are not paranoid - if that's the way you are and it makes you feel happier then you carry on.
Just spotted this in your original post - even if I am with someone I know is "clean" and "safe." How do you know?

Honestly - I guess you can't say that I ever really do know. I trust people (perhaps naively) to be honest and go forward on a "good faith" understanding that we'd be upfront if there was "something amiss."

The problem is that even with 'good faith', if your partner is not a virgin, there are certain conditions where they might not even be aware that there is 'something amiss'.
The whole thing is totally taking the 'fun' out of sex - do you have to ask everybody, and be asked - "have you got a certificate of cleanliness"

That's why I've never directly asked or stated, "By the way, sweetheart, I'm totally clean and safe." That would totally derail the fun and make it a clinical process. Yuck.

And since there's really no way of knowing then it's probably not a terrible thing that I get myself tested regularly. :)

Indeed 10_3XL, you are wiser than most on this issue. Reread my post RE; latent window period and symptomless carriers. Some folks have no idea they are carriers in particular for chlamydia and herpes.
Keep doing as you are whilst still in the process of multi pollination ;)
