I heard on the radio that nys wants to raise minimum wage to $15/hour.

What did you make an hour at your first job? When? What was it?

Minimum wage was $4.25/hour, I made $4.60 (hot stuff) at a chain drug store in the early '90s.

1983 $3.35 at Roy Rogers flipping burgers. Only stayed a few months and then got a job with State Parks Department that started at 90 cents more and gave quick raises if actually worked.

Late 70's I started @ $2.25/ hour working while going to high school... I was making $2.75/ hour at that job when I graduated and with in a week I was making $10.00/ hour (starting wage) in the career I am in now, 4 months later I was making $14.00 / hour (more than my dad was making at the time at his 20+ year union job... this was early 80's)

I personally never worked until after I concluded my first degree - wow that's a whole ago now though - and it was salaried. I was contracted to work for certain clubs/orgs so many hours a week but often could do more. So in effect reducing that part of the reward/remuneration package a little.

But job satisfaction and experience and the like was second to none.

I feel for some kids and parents managing on income level these days with so many pressures on incomes.

Back in my day you did not have 14 year old kids wanting a £700 iPhone or the latest PS4 video game at £50.

    But times change.

first job eh? A dollar to polish my older brother's shoes and wash his camaro. I was like 7 or 8 lol, I quickly learned I could control the flow of big buddy bubblegum trade in my local elementary school and become the Bubblegum cartel and ran it King Of New York style. Most of the time I would say I had more money in my pockets than the teachers. So big brother had to find a new patsy. :D:p

I worked in a shoe store. I hated it and didn't stay long. No clue what my hourly wage was.

One and only time working for somebody else. I think It was 4.25 and hour in the late 80's. Realized then I had to do my own thing and have been self employed since.

I can't call it a job. It was just temp work. I was a child, not even 10. I don't remember how much I was paid, but it was very, very little. I put it into a savings account and, many years later, bought a moped with my savings.
