Odem might need a kidney transplant.

How would you feel if you knew your kidney went to someone who overdosed and now needs an organ? Does it matter if that person is famous?
What about the person he "bumps" on the list?

Personally, I think he should have to go thru drug abuse treatment program first.

I agree. If he is a drug user, he will damage a good kidney that someone else can use.

What ever the medics decide. The priority list.. and who has greater need at the time.

I agree a life is a life 99.9% of the time. Personally I would make an exception to that in very extreme circumstances.

But that's not to say that someone in that situation shouldn't have to go through a thorough rehab as well.

Unselfish acts of kindness should not have strings attached to them.

I don't know much about this story but, just because he's had 'issues' doesn't mean he doesn't deserve a chance to live and recover.
He does need help. I should hope if he does get a transplant he won't waste the gift that he's given.

To get on most transplant list you have to have a clean body of health free of drugs and in the case of liver free from alcohol alcohol for so long or you go down on the list. Their reasoning for this is, for if you are a canidate for a successful transplant. So I can see the reasoning for that to an extent. However I don't think anyone should be penalized for their past actions as long as they are clean. And no one definately should get a fast pass ticket to the front of the line because of their stardom value.

For me the question is where (or how) do you draw the line. How do we know that lamer odom is not worthy, but someone who has a couple of glasses of wine is not. What about someone who smokes pot everyday? What if they live in Colorado?

And if we deny Lamar Odom a kidney what else should we deny him? Should we deny him medications. Should his insurance pay for it?

My point is that if we start handing out organs based on value judgements, we slide down a dangerous slope.

This guy was found face down overdosed from cocaine and generic Viagra in a brothel in Vegas,He was trying to fuck himself to death..Guy has millions and also has a loving wife who stood by his side even know they were separated..He has serious problems,Depression and is going thru a divorce .Of course he deserves a chance and if a donor matches him,He should get a kidney just like anyone else would. His life does matter and with some rehab maybe he will straighten out.He has to want to and nobody can make him..He is a great basketball player and its a shame at what he is going thru . Personalty I think he was very selfish doing something like this and not thinking of the people that loved him..Get well soon xo

Sadly the reality is, there is no where near enough donated organs for the people needing transplants, that is why criterea is established for these transplant list, meaning the most likely to be a successful canidate with the longest survivibility rate will be at the top of the list. I have family members who have been reciepeints of transplanted organs so I kind of know the criteria. So here's a good message to everyone, if you haven;t already done it do it today , check your drivers licenses and donate your organs.

If he met the criteria the first time and didn't cut the line fair enough everyone has the right for a donor famous or not but it shows a lack of respect to the gift of life that he would compromise it for some blow and I know there is probably other things going on in his life but still to possibly throw away a second chance. you'd think going through that would spark something for him to get the help he needed for his depression, If it were me making the decision if he ever needed another one I would find it very hard to give him another one I think there are a lot of other people more deserving after fucking up the first one. but I guess that's why it's not up to one individual to make the decisions.
