I trust that we can have a respectful conversation about this :)

For those who don't know what it is, free bleeding refers to not using products like pads and tampons during one's period. Some women only do it at home, while others do it wherever they go, like one lady who ran a marathon and pictures of her stained shorts were everywhere.
I've had the chance to practice free bleeding in the past and I enjoyed the experience. I'll say I did it simply because I was intrigued, but it felt good, freeing really, and I actually experienced less discomfort. I only felt comfortable doing it at home. If you're wondering what it takes, I just wore a skirt and carried a little towel with me wherever I went.
I wonder if everyone else has tried it, what your reason for it was and what you thought of the experience.

No, it can't imagine doing that. It would be sticky and messy. And it's not always just a flow. I will with stick my tampons.

For me, it wasn't nearly as messy as I expected it to be, honestly. I understand the reasoning, though.
Excuse me??? LOL I know what you meant :)

Lol dreadful typo! I promise not to do that :) lol!
I tend to have a very short period, but it's very heavy. I don't think it would be suited to something like this.

No thanks. I prefer to have less mess, not more.

No, I'll stick to the natural options like a sea sponge or a menstrual cup (I do not need anything since I have an IUD). I have a friend that does that, goes natural or wears the sea sponge option. Tampons, for me, increase the cramps and I hate that but I also hate feeling like I'm about 5 seconds from leaving a crime scene somewhere.

Crime scene LOL I thought it might be terribly messy too, but it isn't for me...I was even tempted to post a pic of the towel I use, I left a cute stain in the shape of a heart last time :D

I change my tampon even if I pee, I hate the wet string lol
I must spend a small fortune on tampons :)

Also not for me. Although I do try to keep it as natural as possible by only using hygienic pads, which I change regularly throughout the day, particularly after using the toilet.

For me, the biggest problem there is with free bleeding is the smell. I've had a friend in the past, way before all this hype about free bleeding, who was all about "letting your body do what it's natural for it to do in a natural way". She didn't use anything at all and just carried a little towel with her. The problem was that period blood can, at times, smell quite foul and if she didn't have a chance to get cleaned up, she could have this acid horrible smell and nobody could stand near her.

The thing is that what we see as period blood is not just blood, it's all sort of cervical mucus, vaginal fluids and bacteria, plus the thick endometrial lining from the uterus, which sometimes we see as chunks of blood. Sometimes period blood doesn't smell much, but other times it's got a very distinctive rotten smell.

No, I have never done this. For me it wouldn't feel totally free since carrying a towel seems to be involved. I would rather 'carry' a tampon inside or a pad in my panties. I already carry a purse and sometimes a tote too, and that is enough for me.

I agree, the wet string feels horrible!
Oh, my...well,yes, I'd never want to impose my choices on someone else, that's why I only do it at home. As for the smell, while period blood can sometimes smell a bit stronger than others, I can't say I've experienced what you describe (on me or anyone else). I can see how that would turn you off to the idea, though.

LOL We're all squirmish about something, right?. Period blood isn't one of those things for me, but I get it that it can be for others :)

Ugh, scary. I'll look into sea sponges.

I don't but I have considered buying the special period panties that allow the absorption of period blood meant for free bleeding. They get really good reviews and anything that would make my period more comfortable for me id do.

If im out and about or being fairly active around the stable (which is the majority of the time) ill use a tampon otherwise i do free bleed. However, i do have to say i bleed very lightly so there is hardly any flow. Around the house ill just wear a pair of running shorts normally and ive yet to have any staining. I started doing this as a suggestion from my dr when i was having awful cramping. At first i thought id feel nasty and wore a pad.. that was short lived and i couldnt stand it. I honestly am more comfortable and the only time i can tell is when i go to the restroom. At that time ill use a moist toilet wipe to stay clean and tidy (sorry for the tmi).
