I have been inspired by HerHubby's thread about translation and my first days in this forum, where I have often thought about what are the differences between you guys from the USA and us here in Scandinavia.

It seems like you cannot watch any kind of naked bodyparts on television. Is this true? A lot of american films on the danish television stations include scenes with people making love and naked people in general. Are they perhaps censored in the US or even banned?

A year ago one of our television stations i Denmark started a series about sex. It is called "Sex skolen" (means The Sex Shcool) and is very popular. About 10 couples come to school and learn new things to do in their sex life. They are introduced to toys, swinger clubs and so on and have homework, where they have to do things with their partner. Tonight the subject is the male and female G-spot. It is not a programme one would watch with friends, though it is very sober and humorous.
Would such a programme be ok in the US?

Sometimes in here I get the feeling that sex before marriage is not totally accepted in the US. I have doubts about this one though, so please enlighten me! Maybe there is a limit on what kind of sex is accepted before marriage? In Denmark sex is fully accepted before marriage (well maybe a very small group does not accept it due to their religion). Many couples choose not to get married at all.

I hope you find it interesting too to see the diffenrences between our cultures and will play along with me on this subject :) I of course am ready to answer any questions you may have :)

Interesting subject matter! I think views on sexuality are very different from place to place in the US. I'm quite used to seeing gay couples holding hands, the occassional topless female, and plenty of strip clubs and adult stores here in New York. Laws are different from state to state though.
As far as porn on tv? Never on public channels! Pay per view is popular for porn. And cable television shows some nudity. I still prefer to get dvds!

Gay couples are not totally accepted here yet - unfortunately. Men have a harder time than women, since the new fashion is girls kissing when they go to night clubs. A strange fashion to me, but I like that it really should open peoples mind to gay love. I think most of the kissing girls do it to get attention from the men who are turned on by it. But that's just my oppinion.

I remember a couple of years ago there was a documentary series that ran on public television called, 'The Sex Files.' It contained nudity and 'sexually explicit' acts, but no actual sex. It was all actors pretending. However, it was a serious documentary and each episode dealt with a different aspect of sex, including the penis, vagina, orgasm, birth control, fetish, etc. It was very well done and tasteful. I guess it's okay to show this kind of serious educational documentary on a public television station as long as it has a disclaimer beforehand: 'The following programe contains nudity...blah, blah, blah.' By public television I mean a station that is funded by the people who watch it, not a corporate-owned network.

There are some movies that have 'cut' the more totally explicit scenes of sex, before hitting the box office here in the US. Like "Puss" said, you can find them on some of the pay channels, with the scenes intact - but that is several months after it's release to the theaters.

Even our notorious "Playboy Channel" has what I call 'soft porn', as it does not show any actual penetration. the actors may or may not actually be penetrating. The camera shots are set to make it look like they are - but you never see a cock entering a pussy... or stuff like that.

Other Adult channels do however, so it's out there - just not readily available to everyone.

Sex before marriage is relatively taboo in U.S. for now. My personal views? - I feel strongly that a good solid serious relationship needs to be evident. It's just too easy for many to go from one bed to another over the course of a couple weeks, all the time thinking "Oh - this time it's real love!" Especially when it involves younger people, who are still forming their own self image and value structure. It cheapens the intimacy and 'one-ness' that giving your body to your partner is all about. I suppose I feel this way because I was one who did this, and I often wish I could turn back the hands of time, and know then what I know now.

But of course, this is 'jmho'! ;)

As was mentioned above, by other posters, the United States does have some fairly strong restrictions about what is shown on "over the airwaves" television and what is said on radio about sex. On TV, body parts do generally have to be covered up although that has loosened up somewhat in recent years. As was also mentioned above, some cable television systems and satellite TV systems (with satellite TV, if it rains, we cannot watch TV) have "pay per view" programs, movies and sporting events which one can watch if they agree to pay the fee (usually billed) and they do have both "soft pornography" as well as so called "hardcore pornography" on those. For a while, I worked as a fraud detector and as a collector for a credit card company. I talked with a number of wives and parents who were VERY UPSET to learn that their spouse or children had put a pornography charge on their bill. One woman I talked with, whose son, it turned out, had placed such a charge on their account said, "When I hang up, you are going to feel an earthquake!! It will occur because I am going to be KILLING my son!!!", she said! As she hung up, I could hear her screaming "BILLY!!! GET YOUR BUTT IN HERE NOW!!!" And, I think that I DID feel an earthquake, ha, ha! Anyway, as Rose said above, in the United States, sex before marriage does tend to be "strongly frowned upon". This, too, has "loosened up" in recent years, however, it is still not something which one really wants to boast about in public. Also, participation in something like this, Sexual Forums, is not something which one really wants to be openly known here. I think that Sexual Forums is probably the best sex discussion web site in the United States, so far as I have found, however, to be totally honest, I would not want people in my community to know that I have been visiting it. They would not think well of me for doing so. As mentioned above, there are some areas of the United States in which sexual matters are more open than others. Rose, her good husband, some others who live in Virginia and I live in a state which tends to be very, very conservative in many ways. The northern part of Virginia and some areas immediately around our larger universities and the Virginia Beach area are somewhat more liberal than the rest of Virginia but no where near as open as, for example, the Los Angeles, California area or San Francisco, California areas among others. Some people, from other nations, come here and find our culture somewhat of a shock as well as somewhat confusing at times. Some people from some of the Islamic nations come here and find our nation's culture shockingly open (for them, that is) and some people from other nations, the Netherlands, for example, come here and find our nation, in their opinion, shockingly repressed. I hope that you can visit here someday, if you have not already done so. You will find it very interesting in the United States! I hope that someday I can visit the European nations. I am sure that I will find them very interesting, too!

I don't know if it shows where you guys are but there is a Canadian show that I can get up here. Its called the Sunday Night Sex Show. considered "Canada's most recognized authority on all matters sexual dispenses advice, guidance and counsel... all with a dash of humour." this show is a call in where people ask personal questions. The host has little wooden dolls to show positioins, and often does reviews of sex toys. Its not explicit, but honestly informational and pretty dang funny

Is that (forgive me if I get her name incorrectly) Sue Johannen who does the sexual question and answer show (sort of a grandmotherly type)? If so, she appears on the Oxygen network here in the states (on cable and satellite). I've seen her a couple of times. She's both informative and entertaining! Really a hoot oftentimes! :)

Sex is fully accepted before marriage here too. Broadcast TV is another story, we have much more strict rules than Europe has in that area. But we have cable or satellite TV where the rules are relaxed more. That TV program sounds very interesting. Even the school sounds interesting.

As a young college student I gotta disagree with you on this one Rose, I've seen guys with notches on their bedposts at college and girls that keep journals with their friends on which guys were a good lay. For the younger generation it's gotten completely carefree... which leads me to agree with this:
Congratulations Rose, you have just described college in America. And people wonder why I haven't gotten laid yet, maybe I don't just wan to hop in bed with some random girl.... :ugh

I was once at AnonymousOne's college, using their library. I went to use the restroom. On the wall there it said, "I LOVE doggie style! The tits make such good handles!"
