This thread is for posting classic music. Lots of time I hear a song on the radio I've not heard for years because I forgot how awesome it was. It's usually an older song that doesn't get played much. So I'll be posting some of the best classics in here for your entertainment. You can also discuss the music that has been posted here. Let's just post one song at a time so that they all get seen :)

    Here is my first one:

Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing - YouTube

Great song, really smooth guitar. I'm currently figuring out how to play it, it's a lot of fun.

Jesus, I haven't heard that song in FOREVER!

There was an old radio station here in Florida SHE 100.3 that got bought out when I was a child. But when it was still on it played music of the "yesterdays and todays" and that was one of the songs that my Dad was always sure to play loudly when it came on.

A good classic song that I heard for the first time in a while the other day is Queensryche's "Empire"

    Queensryche - Empire - YouTube

Not terribly old, but still a classic in my book.

One of my boyfriends was a huge influence on the music that I listen to today. He was very into all the 80's hair metal, a lot of foreign rock and the such.
Out of all the bands he introduced me to, this bands music spoke to me the much. The messages behind the music was strong and had passion.

Not enough bands are like that these days. It's a damn shame.

Depeche Mode are great. However, their songs are a bit of hit or miss for me. some are really great but others are just annoying.

    edit:
oops, forgot the link to one of my favorite Depeche Mode songs.

I'm actually good drinking buddies with the band members of Queensryche now. Amazing the people you meet in the big city. ;)

Pffft... First thing that came to my mind when I saw the thread title was "Hey, we just went to go see the Nutcracker ballet!"

So I suppose that if I was to say a song that comes to mind as it pertains to classical in the context of the thread so far...

    Glad everyone liked Dire Straits.

This song is only ten years old, but it's Carlos Santana, who certainly qualifies as classic. It's also got one of the smoothest guitars I've ever heard, and it's fairly unknown.

Oh...... I consider that classic rock. Classical music, to me, is like Beethoven or Tchaikovsky.

I do however like the first song listed.

Slight difference in "Classic" music and "Classical" music. ;)

okay, two cents....couple numbers I consider "classic'...but that list could be as long as the vapor trail of an international flight.

Maybe over did it at five, but can't help it....music is everything.

Some good songs there, and I remember that first Dire Straits lp when it came out in the midst of an excess of punk and disco at the time (it was real music!). When I met my now wife, one of our first dates was a Dire Straits concert in 1986 and we had front row seats (courtesy of someone I knew at the booking agency). But by then we were into Brothers in Arms which was nowhere near as good, but they also did Sultans of Swing and songs from Making Movies and Love over Gold during the concert. While Mark Knopfler is known for his guitar playing, his lyrics were often very good (on that first record he covers the difficulties he had being taken seriously as a performer (In the Gallery), endless travelling from his home in Newcastle to London to get into the industry (Southbound Again), and the brilliant Wild West End which paints London life so vividly you can almost touch and smell it).

I have quite a few of the songs in this thread on CD (I bought my first CD player in 1982).
