So I saw there was a Pinned Thread called "Sex Education". Got my brain to remembering "the talk" my dad had with me. It went exactly like this...word for word...ahem...

"That thing between your legs can get you in trouble."

That was it...no discussion...no question and answer period.

I was wondering how others found out about the Birds and the Bees...

At a very young age I asked my mother where I came from. She explained the birds and bees as such:

I was my daddys tadpole and she had an egg in her that I swam into. The egg protected me until I got nice and big and then hatched.

I asked how I got in the egg though. Mom said daddy plugged himself into her and I swam up there.

I went around telling both sets of grandparents that I was my daddys tadpole and he had a plug to stick into mommy to make more babies.

Later I learned about more sex on my own.

I remember being in the car driving across town (dad was driving - I don't remember how old I was ) when I asked where babies came from. He just said that the guy sticks his penis in his wife and that made a baby. Of course I knew nothing about vaginas or the female body so I assume he stick his cock into her asshole and pissed in there and thought "yuck". I must have been about 10 or 11 at the time since I had not had an erection or masturbated until I was 12.

When I was ten or eleven I asked my mom about where I came from and she started to tell me in a somewhat detail starting with the pre cum. I was too embarrassed for her to continue. After that I looked up all the stuff myself, learned from friends, class and trying stuff out.

I think that's worse than strict catholic. I'm sorry. I've lived in a smaller city most of my life, but still call St Louis home and spend as much time there as possible...usually in ice rinks now though.

I learned from HBO and Hustler magazine... and fortunately we had a lot of girls with loose morals in this town to practice with. lol

My parents never talked to me about sex, ever.
Lucky for me I'm intelligent and can educate myself. We had sexual education in school which was decent. We learned about general sex, how babies are made, masturbation (with toys too) and STDs.
Then I've explored my own sexuality with the help of the internet and porn.

There wasn't much sex ed in the 70s. Most of what we got was sperm fertilizes the egg...DON"T DO IT. If that isn't motivation. No one heard of HIV and the most you heard of could be cured with a shot or shampoo. I never faced it, but I know a couple of girls that would just go to Illinois to get no questons asked abortions. We started sex ed with the kids when they were about 7 and progressed in content, now that they are teenagers, they pretty well know all there is to know and neither of them even want to date till later, school and sports are taking priority.

My mom just threw a bunch of little books at me about periods and sex when I got my period. A few years later, when I was a teen, she told me sex was not fun, wait till you are married. I moved in with my boyfriend (now husband) very early, which shamed her to no end. At that point she told me to buy birth control before food.

I started talking with my kids early, and my mom was appalled and still is because we don't share the same beliefs and ideals.

I'll give my mother credit, she came around, realized the churchs views were BS and is glad we are giving our kids all the info and consequences of sex they can handle to make an educated decision. It's a good thing my grandmother is dead because this would kill her.

I don't see my mom ever changing. But I see such a huge difference in our relationship and the relationships with my kids. They don't have problems coming to us with anything, sex or not. Education for everyone is important. My grandma about the only thing she has ever said and that has been in the last 6 months is that living together is a sin, that if you can do that, then just get married.:lol My oldest lives with his g/f.

Warning, useless factoid that has nothing to do with this thread except for making you think about something nasty when you hear the term "the birds and the bees" when referring to sex.

Parrots show their love by regurgitationg, pumping their heads, opening their beaks, and purposefuly depositing partially digested food on or near the object of their affection.

    Ain't love grand?

I had The Talk with my son when he was on 5th grade. After giving talking to him for half and hour, I thought that I had the basics covered and asked my son if he had any questions.

He said, "Is dad any good at it?"

I said he was okay at it but, he was still in training.

I never had "The Talk" thank god.....as my mom embarrassingly open about sex. She just gave me books which being the mini-perv i read them cover to cover, but got lots of good information. I'm grateful i got my info early on from there, than from other students who probably think moonshine will cure any STD known to man. It was good i got the STD info too...which reminds me of something funny. I was picking up cigarettes off the property where my wife works and my stepdaughter says "i could never do that, you can get STD's that way from the saliva" she believes it to be true cause she doesn't know that STD's are not eternal in face of the elements nor is there enough to be absorbed through the skin. But she clings to it and thinks she knows everything lol. her logic is infaliable!

Information and education is so important. Now I don't have any kids but if I ever were to have some I would make sure they got all the relevant information when they either ask for it or the time is right.
