Looking at buying a drone, any recommendations? I want a camera on it. I figure if I'm going to get one, I'd better do it now before they start banning the things.

    It's actually quite laughable...

For years you could have a remote control helicopter and no one gave two shits...

Call it a "drone" and omfg, it needs to be banned...lmfao.

Have an MQ-9 that I use every now and then... cost a pretty penny ($16.9 million USD) but came equipped with everything you could ever need.

Forgot the name, it's in the garage, about 20" total length. Not the most precise handling though.

If you are willing to spend $1300, this would be the shizz bro. It has a cam and gimbal stabilization. Up to a half mile range. GPS return. Up to 20 min flight time. Very informative test/demo below:

You can get these for around $110 on eBay from China, if your copter transceiver is compatible. Twelve minute fly time. Wifi camera.

The small one looks similar to the Hubsan X4 I was looking at. I was hoping to spend about $200 to see if I can get acceptable results, if so, the $1300 one would definitely be on my list. I'd be pissed if I crashed that one right off . If I crash a $150-200 one, I'll have to listen to a small lecture from my wife... a $1300 one, well.

Not knowing where all of us reside, but do you have any concerns about having it blown out of the air?

They recommend getting a cheaper quad copter first, to cut the losses on "learning to fly" them. The $1300 is the shizz, but learning on the cut rate one first makes sense to me bro.

Oh we have some rednecks, but not THAT stupid of rednecks. And all of my neighbors know I and my kids play hockey and would knock their teeth down their throats.

Yes Cappy, looking for an inexpensive one to cut my teeth on, then that $1300+ one.

Cool, I expect to hear sometime soon about someone in a rural area blasting one out of the sky.

    So that's a drone!!!
Saw one of these being launched across the bay on Saturday. Then the thing returned and hovered for a while over the terrace of the bar where we were having drinks. It was a bloody nuisance as it made some people extremely uncomfortable (like when it stood exactly over a particular woman). I guess it must have had a camera...
First it was fun to see, but then it felt invasive.

Why would that be invasive yet you're surrounded by thousands of cell phones? I'm looking to use one to get camera shots that I can't physically get too. I've hung out of trees off the side of a cliff to get some shots, a drone would be safer and I'm getting too old for some of that shit. And before you say it can hang outside of a window... I've got a 700mm lense for my 7D and I can shoot from half a mile away in low light.... you're never out of sight of a camera.
