do you agree with the age of consent set by your countries government...do you think is a good idea...

for me...i think it should be up to the individual as to when they first enter into a sexual relationship wether they legally old enough or not...as long as they feel ready n can take on the responsibility...n as for young girls becoming pregnant...i think its just ridiculous as theres so much info about contraception out there for them...be it at school or through reading magazines etc...also...most health clinics supply free contraception these days so there really is no excuse dont you think ?

the only thing i can see good of the age of consent is it protecting maybe victims of rape or the mentally under priveledged...

    what do you think ?

Well, currently there is no real age for two people to have sex as long as they are both under or over 18, not one is under and one is over. Then it is called statutory rape.

The thing is you may be able to have sex, but are you responsible? You could be 30 and still not responsible enough to have sex. But sex around 13 or so may be legal but is it morally correct? What if the condom breaks, because contraception is not 100% safe. Then the 13 year olds have to go through a baby? It happens but doesn't mean it is right.

I have to say I agree with Chef from Southpark. 17. That's when you're ready no matter where you live.

ok lets take this one step at a time or i might blow my top and type something not very nice.............

1:- you say that in your opinion a person is ready for sex no matter what the age so long as they themselves consider it appropriate.....

right well would you say it was appropriate for a willing under 10 boy/girl to give consent for sex......bearing in mind they are very vulnerable and open to suggestion from the *adult* population.. you must think carefully when answering this as the wrong answer will lead to you becoming a pariah in normal civilised society.....

you may argue that this cant/wont/will never happen but i can tell you it does and will carry on.. you only have to look in any chatroom to see the perverts trying to groom young inocent children for their nefarious ends...

what about the mentaly disabled are they to alowed to give consent no matter what the age......

never have i heard such a ridicules statement as the one you made.....

feel free to disagree but i think you will be in the minority and the others that are of the same opinion quite a lot of them are in prison and called nonces....

i only happend upon this board and thought it would be interesting to asee what people are writing however if this is the standard of individual the administrators allow in then i dont think i will be coming back that often.

its also not suprising that there arnt many members either.....:mad:mad

As for there aren't very many members, this board has been up two days, give it some time.

I allow free speech, everyone has their opinions, i can not control them. I will only edit the conversation if it gets into the illegal arena.

I'd say about 99% of people under a certain age (which I believe to be 16) often don't have the mental capacity to understand the consequences of unsafe sex. However, there's nothing stopping them from doing it anyway, I mean, it's like if you're going to ban guns, then only criminals will use guns. They're just in place to give the governments a reason to throw sick bastards in prison.

i think ryan provided very good information above, a child is a great resbonsibility foremost and a 13 year old? sex is a expression of pleasure these days, having sex is thrown around like a casual thing now, i believe an age for sex should be inforced im not sure about going far as saying that you should be married but thats kind of biased on my half, yet it is morally (ethically as a christian) incorrect, its all for us to decide i guess.

Well, there is no way to enforce sex laws. If a man a woman, man and man, or woman and woman are left alone at any age, they can have sex. There is no way to stop it without serious invasion of privacy.

There is just no way to stop it from happening reasonably.

I am somewhat to the right on this issue, I say 17 or 18. But is there any way to enforce that? It just isn't possible.

Not black, and not white. Gray.

IMO, though I'd probably never have sex under the age of 18, the statutory rape laws are unnecessary, and they don't work anyway (mainly because so few people know about them). You'd be surprised (or maybe you wouldn't be) at how many people in my school have never even heard `statutory` and `rape` together before, ever.

I usually just stick with the Chef's policy from Southpark. 17. When you're 17 you're ready.

i agree to apoint that the age limetations are good i do think that at the age of 16 they should understand about safe sex and the reprocussions of not useing it. ya know if they can can be responsible enough to jump in a 2000lb. box of metal and drive around hundreds to thousands of people a day then they should be responsable enough for sex, driveing needs alot more skill and consentration and stuff like that , i hope this came out the way i wanted it to.

YES! I mean, with guys. Im bisexual, and over here the laws for two men having sex has recently been changed (well a few months ago) to sixteen rather then eighteen (even though I lost mine at fifteen... everyone I know has lost their virginity as fifteen). As for a man and a woman... I dunno, I guess for the womans sake of being old enough to handle a baby 18 is appropriate...
