I posted a reply yesterday, but it was gone this morning so I'll try again. Maybe it got deleted because I mentioned brands and prices?
For bargain pinot grigios, these two fill the bill nicely:
Kris pinot grigio. I've only tried '03, '04, & '05 vintages. But they're very good, with about a 91 rating, and I generally pick them up for between $9 and $10 (750ml).
Another is Rocca Bernada pinot grigio. dry and delicate with I think, a 90 rating. It's $18 (750ml) a bottle but I usually get it on special for around $13. I've only drunk the 2004 though.
I find them much more enjoyable with food than after.

Sorry Hiker, that second wine is misspelled. It should be Bocca Bernarda.

I'd love to attend a wine festival. I've been to a few small time wine tasting events, but to go to another country and do something like that must be a great experience. Especially a country known for its great wines.

(and no I am not peddeling all the way, just the downhill parts
as my biking buddy is going and we will take turns one go ahead and have dinner ready
    when He is done)

I'd love to go to a REAL beer fest as well. I've been to many of them here but they seem like just places to get wasted. Maybe they're the same everywhere.
