TLC has a series called 90 day fiancé. 2nd season started yesterday.

It documents couple who fall in love with someone outside the US. The fiancé is given a 90 fiancé visa to come to the US and get married.

It was interesting to see their journeys - how they met, leaving their family, meeting the new family, culture and language differences.

Have they met before like online or is it set up by the series?

They met or spoke in the phone before. They were "in love" before the 90 days.

One couple met on vacation. One met online.

I'd like to be wrong but I believe this is risky and boost the divorce rate.

I'm sure it's not a large percentage of marriages.

I met my wife when she was on holiday in Australia and we got married in Zimbabwe then returned to Australia to live. Australia has a family reunion visa category and spouses can get a residents visa once it's approved, so we don't have time constraints. When you marry someone from another country or culture you marry that culture and you have to negotiate and manage a number of cultural expectations. On the other hand you gain cross-cultural benefits, and in my case it's clear that Africans are relaxed and generally more capable when it comes to raising children than what I see in Australia.

You can meet someone and you can genuinely fall in love very quickly, and if time's limited then you may have to move quickly. In our case it was a couple of weeks dating before engagement, because it had to happen in that timeframe. That was a long time ago.

Not to be pessimistic or party pooper, the thing is a gamble because falling in love is one thing, but finding the right partner is another. some take longer, some do it on a whim, caught up in the romance. Seen it, almost got into it also.

It'd be a gamble - yes, but I wouldn't discredit it. Everyone takes a different amount of time to know when a relationship is a Sure Thing. My mother and father dated a month before getting married. My aunt and uncle dated/lived together for 14 years before marriage. My (maternal) grandparents got married after two weeks and have been happily married for 55 years now. Everyone knows/acts in their own time; each relationship is unique.

90 days is still in the 'lust phase' ............. its what happens after that that counts, whether it is a foundation to build on or if things just crumble.

The Learning Channel hasn't been very educational for quite a while now. A "reality" show with a premise that is basically the prologue to an episode of Maury Povich...? I guess if it were actually real, there'd be something to learn from it, but I don't think that it would be practical enough info to earn a spot on The Learning Channel...
Unless it's something like "I just learned the Learning Channel just doesn't give a shit anymore" lol
