I don't believe that "Sarah Palin" herself was the nail - - I believe the CHOICE of Palin as a V.P. was the nail. It showed a total lack of concern for the nation as a whole, in that God forbid, something should happen to McCain, she would be thrust into the most powerful position in the world. She's not a bad person, by any means - she's just not ready to lead America. Period.

That said, McCain's decision to choose her wreaks of "I'll do anything to win this election". I believe she was used as a pawn, most likely to attract disallusioned Clinton supporters (women). (Laughable, as Palin & Clinton are on opposite ends of the spectrum in practically every issue they address! Does McCain see our gender as so superficial that we aren't interested in real issues? Displaying self centered poor judgment doesn't fare well when one is running for President of the US. A little 'poor judgment' here... a little 'poor judgment' there... and we've got major, MAJOR situations to address.

Bottom line is: it backfired. That decision, along with a truckload of other "I'll do anything to win this election" choices his camp made.

Exactly what I was thinking.

And in all honesty, the reason I voted for Obama and not McCain is because of Palin. They were both mediocre candidates, but Palin made McCain's ticket not worthy of my vote.
I am fully aware of his mixed heritage, but as you also say, you fear for his safety "due to those individuals who are extremely racist". The nation sees him as black, or african-american or hell, let's just call it non-white. My point is the same as yours, I am proud of America for not being racist. Have you not seen the news and headlines heralding the election of the first African-American president? The first Black president? History has been made? Unfortunately, the media drives the tone of this country, but it also represents the tone in many issues, and this country thinks Obama is black.

I did not vote.....

Did you guys see on the news how Obama gave his speech surrounded by 10-foot-fall bulletproof glass?
I know we kinda changed the subject, but in spite of how great a step forward this is for the United States, having a new President, and one of color, it's just sad how racist we still are. This man is taking on the job as the highest in command in the U.S. and he and the Secret Service is truly fearful for his and his family's life. Apparently there have been 500 assassination threats in the past few months. That's just fucking awful, no way around it.
