| | Spell Checking Typos and Looking Up Words
Some people are able to type without typos. Maybe most people. But not me.
Today I found a fairly easy process, after may posts with typos.
Usually, Internet Etiquette does not require correct spelling, only close enough to get the gist of the meaning of the word from the sentence structure.
Today, I thought I have my post saying what I wanted to day, then I Left click hold down Highlighted the text of the post, and right click copied the text. I minimized SF, and Opened Word to a New Document, Blank, in Word.
I started at the top of the Word document, went down the paragraph till I found a red underlined word. If I was not sure how to spell the word, I clicked the cursor on the word, and clicked Tools, and Spell Check. That gave me a list of guesses.
Then I Minimized Word, and enlarged SF. I found the first word to correct, and made the correction. I minimized SF, and enlarged Word. Then I made the same correction in the RED underlined word, that I have made on SF. Sometimes the word stayed RED underlined, and I had to check the spelling.
Then I went to the next RED underlined word, and identified its position in the paragraph and the first word of the paragraph, so I would be able to easily find the word in the post. Then I minimized Word and Enlarged SF. Repeat preceding paragraph.
It might be easier to just make all the corrections in Word, then Copy the post from Word, to SF, and then highlight and delete the incorrect SF post.
A more organized person might write the post in Word first.
I copied the above text into Word and corrected, put some spaces at the top of the original Text, Put in some XXXX, so I could see where I needed to delete. I copy the corrected text to the top of the post. I deleted the original text. I hit SUBMIT, and checked that the posted got onto the Forum. Then I deleted the Word document. Then I found a simple word, and Right Clicked and clicked COPY.
If I had not hit copy for a simple word, the next person who used the computer, and hit Paste, would be receive the text I had corrected, on the computer screen. One reason I don't like to copy my posts around, is that a copy might become accessible to another user on the computer. I rarely use my laptop, and it is my only Private computer.
Ideas?.

You had a typo in the post above (at least one). *smile*
If you use Firefox there is a simple extension available for spell checking. It works with vbulletin quite nicely.

Dear Kbate,
Some of the computers I use have Firefox. I am unable to find spellcheck in Firefox Help, or anywhere else in Firefox. Any hints for how to use spellcheck in Firefox would be appreciated.
One problem with Spell Checking, is that it gives a false sense of security. When I type the wrong word, the spell check does not catch those mistakes, if the wrong word is correctly spelled.
Form instead of From, May instead of Many, etc.
Thanks

Thanks | The firefox extension is called "spellbound" and is available if you use "tools, extensions, get more extensions". on DSL it takes less than 5 minutes to download, install and set up. It places a spellcheck icon on your toolbar which activates when you are in a text entry box.
It will not catch words such as form for from, no spell checker will do that, only context reading can find those mistakes.

FIREFOX SPELLING
I have updated to Rirefox 1.07. I looked at 77 pages of alphabetical extension, and did not find Spellbound, under S.
I did find taht the is a G in teh top right of the screen, and I added Meriam Wbster Dictionary, but then noticed that there was already an ON LINE Dictionary in the drop down menu.
Ideas?

Dear Kbate,
I provided more dtailed instructions, which are apparently intuitive for you, but a cahllenge for me. Maybe the steps, those I remembered to write down, will be of assitance to others. I now have it installed, but I don't know how to make it work. I don't see an icon on my toolbar. I can go Tools, Extensions and find Spellcheck i the box.

misspelled | I apologise for the misspellings, I am having a PC problem and the characters do not show on the screen for quite some time after I type.
I just hit submit and hope for the best. I wish the edit function lasted longer than 5 minutes.
