Nascar- 2008

Though the official season for POINTS doesn't start until the running of the Daytona 500, we did enjoy a great Bud Shootout race last night. Qualifying for this race was primarily any Pole sitter from 2007.

It was Dale Earnhardt Jr's debut as a driver for the Hendricks team, and what a debut it was!! All 4 Hendrick cars finished in the top 6. 'Junior' had a strong car, and he was able to drive it hard - ultimately making it into Victory Lane. No driver points, but a big confidence boost for Jr. Last time he was in Victory Lane was May of 2006.

The big buzz was the confrontation between Tony Stewart and Kurt Busch during practice on Friday. Some things never change

This thread will die. The ppls on hear don't appreciate the finer things in life such as NASCAR. Or like Tony punching Kurt in the face in front of the discipline committee Friday night.

The Bud shootout's always good.....but I still think theres a few playing ducks and drakes,not wanting to show their hand just yet......

It IS exciting to see Jr. able to drive hard without his engine blowing - and being on Gordon's team, he finally has a car owner who knows what it takes to build a race-winning car.

I dont have a NASCAR calendar.....I still have to keep an eye on the ESPN guide to see when its televised....

It's next Sunday at 2:00 PM Eastern on the Fox network. Feb. 17th. The Duel race to finish off qualifying is on SPEED network this Thursday at 2PM.

That picture, in and of itself, won back any 'fence-sitting' fans of Jr (for going to the HATED Hendrick camp)! I think the real Jr fans are just glad to see him smile again - and see him in Victory Lane!

But come Sunday, the 17th? No more Mr. Nice Guy It's points time, and though teams will help each other to a certain degree, it's every racer for himself.

Given that, Thorn & I will still have our "Brag Flag", where one of us will get to display our driver's flag for the week, depending on who comes in ahead of the other (Jr. or Gordon). (Last year, Thorn got to fly his Jr. flag only about 2 weeks out of the year ).
