How is sex treated by the majority in your area?

Very casually in mine. I hear many of you talk with more maturity when discussing sex, and Im wondering if Im the rule or the exception. Literally, parties here, are nothing but places for people to gather and have sex. Single pregnancies are almost at 50% in my graduating class.

A mature relationship with both parties compromising and growing up are rare, almost to the point of nonexistant. Is this the norm these days?

Now where is this exactly? Directions please!

Things are certaintly different and that stuff you write about is quiet common now.

What it ultimatley comes down to is that you have people starting to experiment at young ages, which is very common now, you gain the comfort level to have sex much faster. When you have sex when you are younger there is a lot less thought behind it. So if you do bj's at 11, 12yrs, by the time you are in HS, you will be having full out sex.

In the area that I reside, which is in Kentucky, sex is treated as a dirty act, which should be disdained by all, married, or unmarried. And, even if you're married, sex is still treated as a duty rather than a pleasure. It's sickening how terrible the religious and social climates treat this subject. I had to really rise above some of my social programming about sex to even be able to enjoy it without thinking I were a bad person. It's fucked up to think that something so natural can be perceived as something so terrible and wrong.

i'm in oklahoma, man, it's the fucking bible belt... tattooing only became legal last year, for chrissake. however, i think the general attitude towards sex between people of any persuasion here is starting to loosen up. compared to how it was 10 years ago, for instance, it's a lot better (and yes, i can remember what it was like 10 years ago, regardless of the fact that i was 8).

I'm in Oklahoma as well and my wife has problems opening up sexually because of all the bible thumpers around here and how she was raised. I'm in Ne okla and mostly it is seen as something that is only for married people and even then there should be no kink just good ole' fashion missionary....

Im in California and its the same here. Kids are starting to experiment at a younger and younger age, its really scary.

Um, here in the big apple, New York it seems like kids are becoming sexually active in elementary school. It's pretty scary..

Well I live in Sweden, which is statistically the least religious and most sexually progressive nation on earth. (India is the most religious, by the way).

Swedes are pragmatic about sex, especially among young people. I'd say that around here, sex is considered as normal as breathing. It's just another thing people do, and as such, it's not really "discussed" the way that it is here. Sex education begins in junior high school and everything is covered, including masturbation. The legal age of consent is fifteen, and kids can obtain free birth control and condoms from that age until the age of 20. It is understood here, in a way that it somehow isn't in the US, that denying young people access to condoms is not going to prevent them from having sex. In certain parts of the US, condoms are kept in locked cases and you need to show your ID to prove you're the legal age before you can buy them. That is ridiculous beyond belief.

I would think people over all are more open about sex. It is very common in the schools around here.

I live in the Amish part of Indiana.
Sex is not a topic of discussion here, The small towns here
roll up the sidewalks at 8pm sharp, Liquor license are not allowed
in many towns, No strip bars, No sales of porn books or movies.
To have sex is a sin at any age unless its for the purpose
of procreation not recreation. And their is billboards stating
that birth control is keeping your pants on (no kidding)

As bad as it is here that isn't true. Their is no control on the purchase
of condoms.

Condoms are sold here on open shelves in grocery stores, discount stores, and drug stores and from dispensing machines in the restrooms of many bars, restaurants, service stations, etc. I've never seen an age restriction. There could be state or municipal laws governing it in some places, but I've never heard of it.

Yeah, the condoms I've bought at Wal-Mart were not in locked cases, but we see your point Puss- Sex is very taboo in the US.

I'm in the South and it's frustrating how ignorant and close-minded the people are. I'm young and most in my age group know so little about sex it scares me. Many of the girls still have the mentality of laying their and getting banged without receiving any pleasure in return and finding it normal and acceptable.

I live in Australia, and we have a pragmatic and open-minded approach to sex, especially for teenagers. At government schools we give thorough sex education in early teen years including managing the risks of pregnancy and stds. The age of consent is on a sliding scale depending on the age difference between partners until the age 16 when it is fully legal. Prior to 16 and after, free condoms are available from schools.

I only know this because my children and 17 and 15. As a society we don't discuss sex, because is just a part of life.

Like Sweden, we are not a relgious country. Statistics by census are misleading, but the best statistic is that less than 7% of Australians are regular church-goers. It is no coincidence that sexual liberation and Christian religious beliefs are mutually exclusive.

The one thing I would change is I would like to see more on the aspects that make up good sex rather than highlighting stds, pregnancy and the mechanics of intercourse. In the past, many societies had ceremonies called 'initiation', part of which was advanced education in mutual pleasuring. For example, Islam encourages mutual pleasure, and Islam teaches men to orally pleasure their wives to orgasm before intercourse. Islam also teaches women to remove all pubic hair to help their arousal response to oral sex from their husbands (be it a temporary or a long-term husband, a temporary husband being a religiously-sanctioned casual sexual affair).

We former Christian countries still have some religious shackles to break by comparison.
