Reviving old threads

I have a question. Why is reviving old threads so wrong? I mean, sometimes when I do a search under a certain phrase or term, old threds pop up. I read the threads and sometimes I have questions or would like updates from the folks that originally posted. I would like to be able to just ask in the thread instead of starting a new one.

The Old Maid

Well, I discourage it because this is Ryan's forum, and it's one of the things he asked me to do.

Because usually the original poster is no longer a member and another topic on the same subject has popped up with different views. Otherwise, I don't know... Besides the fact it's annoying.

Oh, geez, "Foxman" - get a clue (and a life!!)
-------------------------------------------
On topic: I find that bringing up old threads, for the purpose of continuing discussion pertaining to it, gives newcomers some valuable insight that may have been posted there(regardless of whether the original poster is still around)

Sometimes, a thread dies, for whatever reason, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the "topic" is dead. Seems to me it would be better to keep the subject within one thread, rather than having 2...3...10 threads on the same subject. There may be some extremely good advice/insight posted several years ago, that a newcomer today could find helpful.

foxman ( just wondering whats the pic got to do with the topic lol

Well for me i used to run a forum myself , and old topics where never of bounds.i kind of agree wit hRose and CL ...but of course the decission is Ryans to make ...

I to have read some of the older threads and its great to read what some of the now distant members had opinions on.
maybe making a new area where all the old threads go, but still new members would be able to post in them if something they saw seemed very relavant.

I agree....

It seems silly to create more threads when one has
already covered that very subject....!!!

As one who has been 'burnt' when reading old threads and continuing the discussion you want people to be able to read the backgorund to it ie the rest of the thread.

What would be good to be able to see is the start date of each thread near the topic heading so people can ignore older threads if they wish.

But I yield to Kronnie, Mel etal point that it isn't my thread so just my 2 cents worth

Not to get off topic, but something that was just posted made me think. I have noticed that after some length of time, you are no longer able to edit your posts. I have only been on 4 forums, so,certainly, I am no expert, but, this is the only forum I've seen where you can only edit for a certain amount of time.

So, I find this rule to be confusing at best:

"Do not “bump” any thread or post. If you have something to add please use the “Edit” feature located in the lower right hand corner of your post. "

I am not picking a fight, I just want an explanation.
